Thanks all.. Best reply was a 6906 slide on a colored 6904 frame.. The Factory said the S/N TET10XX was a 6904 made in 1989. I am still happy to add this oddity to my collection. I also saw that the 2nd GB listing had been removed, so there goes my plan to buy that one too!. This seems to be...

    Red 6904

Ah.. Thank you for some plausible history.. It is an oddity, for sure, and that is what intrigued me. Because of there being at least two, I can't help to wonder whether mine was one of a limited series of special custom builds, or just one of two red owner-modified oddball S&W firearms.. I may...

    Red 6904

Likely a re-do, but the details and wear indicate it was done to a new one.. I would have expected less crispness in the slide logo after a bead blast.

Thank you. So no 6904 ever had a stainless slide?

The so The sides of the slide are polished,. the top is dull.

    Red 6904

Nope...It was never blued, no wear marks and was all originally stainless according to the guy I talked with at S&W. Please go to the GunBroker site, search 6904 and see the other matching one that is still listed for auction today, (May 7), for 5 more days. There are 10 pictures there. Mine in...

OK, Rick.. I am now deeply sorry that I asked for any info from the knowledgeable.. Forgive me for insulting your sensibilities.

    Red 6904

Not a simulator, no defects, it goes bang and makes holes. It was pristine until today. My guess was maybe a contract for an awards program? Fireman awards? The serial number goes to a shipped factory stock 6904 in 1989. There are at least two of these, so I rule out Bubba's basement anodizing...

Gunbroker had two red anodized 6904s, and I bought one.. It arrived, and appears brand new. Upon calling S&W to ask how many they made that way, they told me they didn't. Curious as to who colored these and how many might exist, I post here to the folks who may know. It is a gorgeous piece!

    I Bolt owners..

Ok..FYI...For all of you S&W I-bolt owners..(All five of us?) who wanted to upgrade to a nicer stock..All of the aftermarket stock guys like Boyd's said that they had nothing to fit, and S&W told me that there was nothing that would cross.... I borrowed a stock I thought might look close for fit...

    I Bolt owners..

Just checking back, seeing if anyone knows of a wooden stock that comes close to fitting this rarity..Boyd's had nothing to suggest, but I remember seeing somewhere that a Rem 700 long action may fit.. Can anyone verify that for me before I buy an Ebay beater stock to try that might just wind up...

    i-Bolt owners....let's here your opinions

Not many of us I-bolt guys?? I have a NIB 30.06 S&W I-Bolt, and I have had no responses here from my queries from any other S&W I-bolt owners. Can it REALLY be so rare and odd? Yeah, I know it's not listed anymore, but mine shoots a solid 1 MOA off of a rest and it could probably be better with...

    I Bolt owners..

Are there only two of us in the forum?? My collection of S&W firearms has recently been increased with a NIB I-bolt from a listing on Gunbroker.. With my being a S&W collector/stockholder, I could not pass up such a screaming deal on a 30-06 with an incredible trigger and with the awesome...

I am not a Ruger fan

Not a Ruger fan either, going back a few decades when Bill Ruger's company health insurance wouldn't cover injuries to helmetless MC riders in a State that didn't have a mandatory helmet law..Skiers, race car drivers, hockey players, skydivers and others in possibly injurious sports were ok for...
