Using sugar water with red coloring.

It's more a clover bee feeder than a hummingbird feeder. Tried some peppermint oil on the feeder but it doesn't work. Any suggestions? One of the feeders has a solar panel roof and video camera. Also has a siren to scare off unwanted birds.
