holster for model 19 with red dot installed

wow, thanks for the helpful tips. I cringe at the idea of modifying my old pristine model 19s, but in reality they are meant to serve the safety and security needs of their owner. Adding a red dot is reversable. It will also be cool to once again command accuracy!

holster for model 19 with red dot installed

love my. 2 model 19s, but I have to admit with my eyes I shoot much better with a red dot. I would have to drill my top strap and remove the adjustable sight. Not a big deal, because I can always reinstall the adjustable sight if I change my mind. Now for the question does anyone make...

replacing fixed, integral front sight on J frame

On my 642 the front sight is part of the barrel. It's not easy to see in good light, and impossible to see in low light. I am looking for options to mill down the front sight and replacing with a fiber optic sight, tritium sight, or even better a fiber optic tritium sight. XS sights has the...

can a model 642 barrel be replaced with 3 inch?

I have not seen or heard of a 3 inch j frame in 38, doesn't mean they don't exist. I would be nice and light, but relegated to Belt carry, at which point I might just be better to get a 3 inch model 60. my 642 has a really good action job right now and would hate to destroy it. Right now...

can a model 642 barrel be replaced with 3 inch?

it would create something like the 317 kit gun (22 lr) in 38+P :). I would hire a smith to do it. would have to find out cost for barrel and cost for the work. would be a nice carry piece, going from 1.875 to 3 inch would provide a lot more umph too.

can a model 642 barrel be replaced with 3 inch?

Would still be light for EDC, easier to aim, and I could replace that fixed blade with a night sight. Fantasy or reality, what say ye?

replacing non-pinned from sight on model 19

any thoughts on fiber optic vs fiberoptic/tritium? If I was using a flashlight via FBI or Chin hold the flashlight would light up the fiber optic. The tritium would glow all by itself in the dark (so I'm told). On a shady location a friend showed me his tritium sites outdoors could not see any...

replacing non-pinned from sight on model 19

true enough, these guns fill many roles. For a long while I just went to the range and tried for tight groups with slow fire. for this purpose a better front sight would help a great deal. With the world and culture condition deteriorating I have started working on faster self-defense...

replacing non-pinned from sight on model 19

the DX sight base has a nice clean look, and being able to try different sights without having to push out a pin, re-drilling sounds good. I've had these 19s for a long time; they have excellent trigger jobs and really nice finish still. I hate to compromise original design, but over the...

replacing non-pinned from sight on model 19

have tried a couple of colors. orange, green, yellow. This helps a little and retains the integrity of some very nice model 19s. I did add laser grips (red) which helps at night. I tried some other firearms with fiberoptic sites and it was amazing even in an indoor range. Outdoors must be...

replacing non-pinned from sight on model 19

I have two model 19s (one nickel, one blue) where the front sight is integral to the barrel (not pinned). I am looking for options to improving my front sight by replacement. I have tried various colors of pint that help just a little, but still hard for aging eyes to see. In full daylight...

    Resizing 357 near base

brass was shot in model 19 2.5 and 4 inch. Also shot in Mariln 1984. Not sure if one of these cylinders or chamber is the issue. I can try to measure with calipers but not the easiest thing to accurate measure and inside diameter. Loads were at upper end of manuals for W231 (125 grain cast)...

    Resizing 357 near base

I have some 357 cases that are a little out of spec at the base. My lyman tungsten resizing die cannot reach this area of the case. The shell plate holder of my lock and load ap takes up a bit of length, and the carbide insert is slighty recessed in the die with a tapered lead-in. The end...

base of 357 not reduced by sizing die?

unfortunately the bulge buster appears to only be for rimless semi auto cartridges. where it really counts is in my revolvers and lever action. If the load and eject there, then all is cool. After having some extraction issues I wanted to use the case gauge rather than having my pristine...

base of 357 not reduced by sizing die?

after a bit more research I located the SAAMI spec for 357 cylinders. At the mouth, the dia is .381, tapering down to .380 over about 1.2 inches. The 357 cartridge is SAAMI spec at .379. The best I can measure I suspect the Hornady case gauge is dead on .379, so some cases that have a slight...
