    Aluminum Case Ammo

Never had a problem with aluminum (or steel) cases in any semiauto handgun I've fired it out of, and that's quite a few handguns. I do occasionally find aluminum shavings in the action but not to the point it affects function or warrants concern. Many moons ago Academy sold Blazer 9mm for $3/box...

    Price for Unique Powder?

Oh, I was tempted! Like others, I have been gravitating away from Unique but still have a few pounds in reserve. I'm sitting on plenty of HP38, 244 and Green Dot and need to use it. GD is a sleeper pistol powder and I've used it in a few larger bore pistol cartridges with nice results.

    Price for Unique Powder?

Table at the last show had several new 1lb bottles of Unique@ $30/lb out the door. Tempting, but I had already snagged a new 8lb jug of 2400 for $200 and I still have plenty of unique.

Durned if I ever saw such hard, tight primers!

Odd- I haven't had any issues depriming Belom brass. I use a Mighty Armory decapper with an old single stage RCBS Jr. for all my depriming to keep the 550 clean(er).

Good starting point for a 16-4?

I have had good luck with the Speer .314 HBWC in my 16-4. You can find them for around $100/1K. Buy Lead Handgun Bullet, .314, 98 Grain Ammo | Speer

    Steel Cased Ammo

Go to a day even further back (around 1989, or so) and a 1K case of Chinese steel-cased 7.62x39 was $50 OTD at local shows. For <$200 (~$500 today when adjusted for inflation) you could buy a new SKS and a case of ammo. $50 more would upgrade you to a Mak-90.

    Steel Cased Ammo

I've got at least 2K of steel cased 9mm through a Colt 635 with no issues whatsoever. Also went through quite a bit of Russian .45 ACP and 9mm (typically Barnaul) back when it was dirt cheap through several 1911s, Hi-Powers and a Pre-B CZ75- never even a hiccup and the extractors are all fine.

    Unique Powder

In an attempt to conserve my last 4 lbs of Unique I use a lot of HP38. I just started playing with 244- no serious load workup so far but it seems promising and both (relatively) affordable and available these days. Hmmm... I also need to load with Green Dot given I still have 16 lbs of the...

    Is Lab Radar a buy @ $200?

Garmin, hands down. I've been using chronographs since the 35P in the '80s and have also used the Labradar and Caldwell (friends) and Magnetospeed (mine) units. The Garmin puts the rest to shame. I can take it to my indoor range and set it up without a second thought with shooters in the other...

Just have to give RCBS a bit of praise

Ditto on the awesome customer service. They helped me rebuild my dad's original Rockchucker some years back. A few weeks ago I needed seater plugs for a set of 1957 dated 32 S&W Long dies. No charge, and I received a set of SWC and WC plugs a week later.

    Primer Sale At Brownells

I'm looking at a can of 800-X in front of me right now. The tag reads $9.45. The last decent deal I got on powder was in 2021- 16lbs of Green Dot (a very good powder for some pistol calibers) for $240.

    Primer Sale At Brownells

At least the price is headed in the right direction. That said, I'm currently using some WSP primers to load a bit of .38 Special. These WSP primers were $11.00. $11.00 per K.

    38 special schofield freak accident

5/16" brass rod, a hammer, some Kroil or PB Blaster and a vise with jaw protectors. Let the penetrating oil sit overnight and have at it. Best case is you get the bore clear with no damage. It can take a bit of work to get the bullet(s) out, and to be honest I've only ever done it with one...

    Norma 38 spl load

I got an average of 770 fps on my new Garmin out of a 5" HD yesterday, which I considered quite light given the published specs, but there's a large caveat. After I chronoed 5 rounds my daughter took the box to fire out of her 4" M67 and in the next 15 rounds had a FTF (it fired on the second...

    Global Ordnance

I've bought ammo from them several times with no issues. They're legit.

    Argentinian primers

I bought 5K of the Argie SPPs and just started on my second thousand- no problems whatsoever in 3 different S&W revolvers (2 Ks and an N).

    Stainless steel side plate scratches

I used increasingly fine grit sandpaper and oil to remove an engraved rack number from the left side of the frame on a S&W 67-1 I got cheap. It took about 3 hours of work but you can't see where the engraving was and there's no dishing to the frame as I used a small sanding pad backer. I started...

Well what do we have here? No, seriously, what is it?

Liberal use of water is they key to breaking down the corrosive priming salts. I also use Ballistol and water and have never had issues with corrosion- and I've shot A LOT of corrosive ammo over the years because it was very cheap and plentiful at one time.

    Anyone Else Bending Depriming Pins

I haven't noticed any offset primer flash holes. However, I use a Mighty Armory decapper in a separate depriming operation - it is *strong* and I have actually punched a hole in a Berdan case that slipped into some Boxer brass. The pin did not bend...
