Will somone either loan me three hundred bucks or talk me out of the M&P 40s that are out there.

The first-generation M&P40s are excellent guns. They (and the 2.0s) are probably the most comfortable .40s to shoot and don't suffer the accuracy gremlins that bedeviled the 9x19 versions. I've got two of them; one carries a Streamlight TLR-1 and sits in my nightstand.

    Reloading the 357

Hodgdon lists loads from 4.5-5.0 grains of Titegroup under a 158-grain LSWC. The pressure they show for the max load is not much over .38 +P level. I wouldn't go over that level for the reasons cited above, and it will still make your cylinder uncomfortably hot after three cylindersful of...

Semi Wadcutter Lead Bullets .41 Magnum

+1 to this. I have some traditionally lubed cast bullets left for my .44 Special loads, and once they're gone, I won't buy any more. I've already switched to coated lead bullets for my .38, .357 Mag, 9x19, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP loads. The original lead bullet factory ammo for .41 Magnum was...

.38 Special Ammo Velocity Comparisons: Historical vs. Modern

Just for some modern context, current production (since they restarted production) R-P .38 Special standard pressure 158-grain LSWC went 804 fps from my 4” Official Police, and the +P 158-grain LSWCHP went 840 fps from my 3” 64-6 and 860 fps from my 4” 10-8. I always take the old catalogs’...

    Bayou bullets ???

The owner has had health issues. He had to stop working earlier this year, and when he came back to work, there was a backlog, plus he was requesting orders due to financial issues he was having. I ordered, and a couple of months later received, 1500 158-grain SWCs from him. They came in May.

    What are you carrying today?

Switched from the PX4 (18 rounds) to my 642-2 (five rounds) with new Hamre Forge grips to get some time with it on the range. The grips work really well, giving K-frame trigger reach, which I need. I went through 70 rounds. Carrying an Airweight J frame is just so nice. :)

    What are you carrying today?

I've got three of them, two of them converted to decock-only and one DAO. They're excellent. They run with anything I've put in them, are accurate and reliable. Going with the factory mainspring for the D model reduces the DA pull to less than 10 lbs and still provides enough oomph to light...

    6906 Kydex Holster?

+1 on JMCK. They do have that form. I had them make a holster for my 5906 using it and leaving the muzzle open. I have over a dozen holsters they've made, both IWB and OWB, and I've been pleased with the quality.

    Tactical Reloads for Revolvers

This is one of those "it depends" things. If you've successfully dealt with the bad guy and are reasonably certain he doesn't have friends in the near vicinity, doing a tactical reload can make sense. Otherwise, I'm dumping whatever's in the cylinder and using a speedloader.

    S&W 6906, Glocks and P320's for Carry

"Glock leg" was caused by reholstering with a finger on the trigger, or something getting caught inside the trigger guard while reholstering. Langdon Tactical Technologies makes a Striker Control Device that replaces the back plate on the slide with one that also fills the striker channel and...

    45 Auto Rim

You'll need this with coated bullets. I tried shooting my coated 230-grain RNL handloads (that run fine in my autoloaders) in my 22-4 and couldn't make it through a full cylinder without one or two bullets pulling free from the case in spite of a good taper crimp. I got the Redding .45 ACP...

    Tactical Reloads for Revolvers

When I was heavily involved in shooting revolver in IDPA, I got halfway decent at this. My usual loadout when carrying a revolver is a speedloader and a speed strip or a 2x2x2 pouch. What I hope I'll do if I ever have to do this for real is shoot, then run like hell to the nearest hard cover...

    What are you carrying today?

Not a fail from Beretta's point of view. .40 S&W was the new hotness back then. The 96 magazines only held 11 rounds; the Cougar/PX4 .40 magazines hold 15. Beretta PX4 D (DAO) 9x19 in a JMCK IWB#3, my 18-shot K frame.

Looking to get educated on non-appendix IWB holsters

My preference is for Kydex, specifically this holster. I have versions of it for 3" & 4" K frames and autoloaders from the Walther PPS to full-size M&P45s and 1911s. I find it conceals well and is comfortable. This past weekend, I did two 200-mile drives to a shooting class and home, and did...

Speer's 135 grain Gold Dot 38 Special +P Short Barrel load info

From my 3" 64-6 and 1-7/8" M49 ND, the Speer load hits low as close as five yards. OTOH, my 642-2 hits to POA with that load.

Can I shoot +P ammo in my Model 36?

^^^That's what a carry gun is supposed to look like! :)

Can I shoot +P ammo in my Model 36?

Since I attended those classes as a student, I obviously don't have the lesson plans for them. The first one I did was by Greg Ellifritz, his Snubby Revolver for Concealed Carry class. This link goes to his main page; he doesn't have a separate page for that class. The class description is on...

Can I shoot +P ammo in my Model 36?

It makes sense if it's your primary carry gun or in a class. I've done a class each with my 642 and 49 with ~200 rounds fired in a day. If you have decent grips and don't just stand there and burn through your ammo as fast as possible, it's not a big deal.

Can I shoot +P ammo in my Model 36?

As noted above, +P is safe in a M36. Just as important is where your chosen ammo hits in relation to point of aim. Older J frames are typically regulated for 148-158-grain ammo, while newer ones seem to be regulated for lighter bullet weights. The only way to find out is to shoot your...
