Is there a cure for J-frame fever?

The cure for me will be when they take the lock out of the M&P 340 so I can buy one

Test of New 632 327 Federal Carry Comp Revolver

Thanks for the link. I like the idea of the .327 Magnum. I don't think I like the tapered and slotted underlug. The cylinder looks stronger than I thought it would. Now lets see a .327 M&P 340 minus the dreaded feature. Does anybody else wish the Gunblast videos were longer?

    9mm Revolvers

Years ago I had a 940. I had a problem with cartridges sticking. I could get two reloads fairly comfortably, but after that it was pretty hard to get subsequent reloads to seat. At the range I would use a nylon bore brush every third reload and clean the cylinder to keep the cartridges fron...

Are new no-lock 642's still available?

I called a local dealer and he said the new 642 no-locks weren't available from his sources any more. He thought he could get a new no-lock 442 though. Does that sound right? I can live with a 442, but I was wanting to get a 642 for corrosion resistance.

Removing The S&W Internal Lock (Video)

Excellent video! Thank you. What happens if you remove all of the lock pieces? I remember someone saying they just removed the flag and later had the remaining lock bits lock up his gun. Now if S&W just dropped the lock there are at least two revolvers, a M&P 340 and a 3 inch 686 that I'd...

    3 Inch barreled guns

I agree, of course A couple of decades ago I shot an old high school buddy's 4 inch model 19 with the original deeply checkered wood grips. I remember that being a handful shooting .357. From that old memory I think that for comfortable shooting I'd want at least a 4 inch barrel in a little...

    3 Inch barreled guns

I believe you. I kind of figured that a 3" L frame just appears to be more concealable than a 4". Didn't Massad Ayoob say long ago that he could just as easily conceal a 6" K frame as a 4"? I also agree with Doc Nonverbal that a 3" L frame looks like a J frame snubbie on steroids. Maybe that...

    3 Inch barreled guns

I like the proportions of a 3 inch barreled 686. The 3 inch barrel balances well visually with the grip length. Also, the 3 inch barrel looks like it would conceal better than the 4, but hopefully would have better ballistics and less blast than a 2 inch barrel when you are shooting .357. I...

J frame with better fixed sights

Thanks Captain38. The Bowen high visibility sight installation looks great. The price is scary though at $295 Here is the catalog link with pictures at the bottom: http://www.bowenclassicarms.com/NEW/SWpackages.htm

J frame with better fixed sights

I'm on the lookout for a no lock 642 now. If you had a snubbie that came with similar sights to the 642 and had them improved please post pictures and mention the gunsmith and the cost. I'm seeing a few places that mention improving the sights, but not many pictures. I think just deepening...

J frame with better fixed sights

I saw a 642 PowerPort today. It has a white dot front sight and what looks to be the normal shallow cut rear sight. With the shallow rear sight I couldn't see the bottom of the white dot with the sights lined up. This set of sights looked better than the typical S&W snubbie sights. The 340...

    Revolvers without the lock

I'm with you ladder13. I too would probably pick up a 340 M&P in a heartbeat if it were offered sans lock. I can't believe S&W is making the Classics with locks in them. Are they insane? Just my luck I get in the mood to buy revolvers again only to find that useless abomination incorporated...

    586 L-comp w/ pics

That is one fine looking firearm. How is the recoil compared to an uncompensated gun? I'm considering the 642 PowerPort, but I haven't seen any reviews on it yet.

J frame with better fixed sights

OK, I finally got to hold a 340 M&P with the Crimson Trace laser grips. The sights on it are much better than the ones on my old 940. The sights look like they would be quick and accurate. The laser grips looked and felt great too. They weren't as thick as I thought they were. I like how...

J frame with better fixed sights

Oh, if anyone is wondering why I don't just carry the Pocket 9 it is because I consider it more of a collector's gun now. I love the looks, size and handling of the pistol, I just want to keep it in good condition. I remember a J frame printing less, I like the reliability aspect and I just...

J frame with better fixed sights

Good to hear. I can't wait to see one for myself. I have read at least one comment by someone that they didn't like the U notch on the rear sight of the M&P though. For anyone wondering why I want good sights on a snubbie: I had the S&W 940 and could not hit the broad side of a barn with it...

J frame with better fixed sights

I glanced at the NightGuard series, but I'd really want a J frame for pocketability. The new 642 PowerPort model definately has what looks like a good front sight. I wonder if they cut the rear notch deeper too?
