I just finished reading William Forstchen's "One Second After".
This is a very frightening story about an EMP attack on the US.
I would strongly recommend this book for those interested in SHTF scenarios.
Thank You for your responses. I called Hodgdon and a Tech man said to use the starting load data for 9mm and 40 S&W with the Magtech SMPPs. He did not recommend using them on 380. He said he has seen pressure change as much as 5000 with different primers. I sent an email to Ramshot for load...
I am reloading for several people. The component shortages have caused us to buy Magtech Small Magnum Pistol Primers, HP38, and Ramshot TAC from Graf & Sons today. We are going to load 380 ACP, 9mm, 40 S&W, .223 with 55gr FMJBT, 308 and 30-06 with 150gr FMJBT. I currently use Bullseye in the...
IIRC Platt was using FMJ ammunition in his Mini-14 during the Miami FBI shootout. He killed two agents and wounded five others. Certainly at close range the .223 was effective with tragic results.
Buy a Lee RGB .223 set. The depriming pin will back up on hitting the bottom of a berdan case. Loosen the nut, readjust the pin and re-tighten the nut. A set should be about than $20.00 from Midway. I have Lyman and RCBS dies and Lee beats the heck out of them.
Do you have a shooting friend that has a better location?. Maybe you can cast at their place and reload at yours. Sometimes these tasks are easier if two people are working together. More than that tend to be a distraction.
I have found that my reloads throw the brass to the same spot more consistently than factory ammo.
OKFC05 is right about using a tarp. Also, nickel plated brass can catch your eye a little better if they fly off the tarp.
I have been using Bullseye for 165 and 180 grain bullets. The Alliant website has the weights of powder. I keep a little below their recommendations. Over a thousand rounds fired from a 4006 with no signs of pressure problems or failure to cycle. I agree their are better powders but this...
Barb,
The recoil spring that operates the slide is the strongest in the gun. A spring that would push back the slide would have to be stronger to overcome the recoil spring. Also, that spring would have to be disengaged when the pistol is firing or the slide would not move. Perhaps a lever...
My business is a few blocks from a Gate's and Bryant's. I frequent them both. You will not leave hungry. Jack Stack is also outstanding. There are many other good placed scattered around the city. Hereford House, Golden Ox and Majestic have great steaks. The downtown Hereford House had a...
I have Lyman, RCBS, and Lee dies. If you are depriming cases that might have a crimped-in primer the Lee dies are enormously better. I just buy a new set of Lee dies rather than screw around with replacing broken depriming pins. In other aspects I see no disadvantage to Lee dies. Just my...
It is easy to fall into the component mismatch cycle. I noticed I had some extra 168gr HPBT bullets so off went an order to Graf & Sons for some 7.5 Swiss cases. I hardly shoot the K-31 but at least I can now. My rough rule of thumb is 250 rounds for oddball stuff like 7.5 Swiss, 7.7 Jap, 444...
The first centerfire rifle I bought was a carbine in 1974. I have always enjoyed it and my wife and daughter find it fun and easy to shoot. As an impoverished student the carbine caused me to start reloading in order to shoot. Winchester used to sell a 110gr. HP round and bullet for...
Go to Alliant's website for reloading. There is a phone number for tech help. They are very easy to work with. Even if they are busy you will get a call back.
I have loaded thousands of rounds of 9mm, 40 S&W, 45ACP, and .223 on a Lee Pro 1000. I have only used Remington primers (1 1/2, 2 1/2, 5 1/2, and 7 1/2). I have never had a failure to fire or a problem with seating the primers when I do my part.
