Revolver vs. Semi Auto for CCW

I’ve carried several kinds of guns. I’ve settled on the Snub Revolver. A J Frame is always in my pocket. Most of the time a second J Frame is in my waist. Lately the 7 shot 817 Taurus has been in my waist. 12 rounds before a reload should do it.

Show me some J frame Pics

This finish is notorious for not holding up well. It was the coating they put on it. When I worked at Gun Shops we sent a few to S & W for repair. They were either repaired or replaced I can’t remember which. Mine is just starting to show. It’s my Florida Pocket Gun. Only carried in the winter...

Show me some J frame Pics

Starting from the top is a 3 inch model 36 from the floating J years. Second one down is a 638 that I inherited . The third one down is a 442. Fourth one down as a model 60 I found in A gun shop was darn near perfect condition when I got it the action wasn’t even broke in I had to dry fire a...

Snub nose revolver for self defense 9mm or 38sp

I Tried a 9mm Snub years ago. Absolutely hated the moon clips. They were a pain to load and a pain to carry. If you bent one, forget about it. I mostly shot and carried 357 snubs and lightweight 38 snubs. As my hands got old I quit the 357. Now the lightweight 38’s aren’t fun for long. So, I...

Favorite 38 spl self defense load

I’m sure the ones we’ve posted here aren’t the only ones that will do the job. A lot of people lately have been posting about the wad cutter loads for the penetration. I just found a test the other day for the 130 grain flat nose standard Winchester 38 special. The tester said it was good for...

Favorite 38 spl self defense load

Ever since Massad Ayoob wrote his article about how Speer developed the Gold Dot 135g. 38+P 38 special round for the NYPD, I’ve cried it. The NYPD stated it performed well from 2” and 4” barrels. They said it was good at stopping Bad Guys. That was actual shooting street results. Not jello not...

.38 Special or .357 for EDC

I can’t handle Snubs shooting 357. There was a time that’s all I shot. Those days are gone. 38 +P from my new 817 Taurus was easy to handle and be accurate with. Les recoil and Les noise. 7 shots in my 817 in the waist. 5 shots in my pocket J-Frame plus reloads, if that isn’t enough I guess...

    Feeling kind of snubby today

I know what you mean. I need comfortable grips. My hand was pined under a front end loader bucket. It smashed and deformed it a bit. I can shoot pretty good with rubber grips. Not a perfect shot but ok.

    Feeling kind of snubby today

Wood is pretty. My old beat hands need comfort. My guns get shot and carried. As pretty as wood is, it doesn’t work for me.

    Feeling kind of snubby today

More than 30 years ago, I bought the 617 in double action only, seven shot 357. Loved that gun. A bad round took it out permanently. When I found out they re-released the 817, I couldn’t live without it. The trigger action was very nice right out of the box. No need for multiple cleaning dry...

    S&W J frame vs. Glock 42

Loaded 2LBS. Yes a little heavy. I have carried heavier. I’m just a Revolver nut and can’t get enough of this new Taurus. The action is perfect for me and it shot very well at the Range. I took off the smaller factory grips and added Hogue Mono Grips.

432 32 HR UC or Bodyguard mod 2.0 for carry??

I like Revolvers best. If you have both guns, carry both. If you’re going to buy one. I would buy the Revolver. You will have to decide what works best for you. If you don’t own a gun presently, you might want to try some first. The Snub Revolver will take more practice to shoot well. At least...

    S&W J frame vs. Glock 42

I saw 1.8 LBS don’t have it yet. If I can carry my XDM that is over 2LBS, this should be no problem.

    S&W J frame vs. Glock 42

I have always liked J-Frame snub revolvers the best. most often I carry two J-Frames. If I felt I needed more I added a Glock 26 or a Springfield XDM. Today I ordered a Taurus 817 38 Special 7 shot Revolver. I’ll probably be carrying the 7 Shooter in my waist and a lightweight 5 shot J in my...
