AI is really getting dangerous & scary!

Examples of AI created models used in Vogue fashion magazine. Any size, shape and color you want. Cost at present is about $100K for such a creation. Will probably drop greatly in the future. No more supermodels needed.

AI is really getting dangerous & scary!

It's barely imaginable the extent of changes we'll see within 20 years as a result of joint AI and automation. Among the greatest will be the elimination of huge numbers of jobs now done by humans. That will lead to enormous societal upheavals.

Got a call from Homeland Security

I doubt that DHS ever calls a possible suspect on the phone to ask questions.

AI is really getting dangerous & scary!

By now most everyone has probably noticed that an inquiry on about any topic on any search engine will produce an AI-generated response in first place. Some are obviously incorrect. I have seen somewhat the same thing happen on Facebook sites. This has begun fairly recently, around the first of...

    Another Restaurant Concept

Was just announced that San Antonio will soon be getting an Applebee's-IHOP fusion restaurant. The first in the US is in Seguin TX, not too far from San Antonio, which opened in February. Plan is to open 15 more US locations by the end of 2026. Both brands are part of the same company...

Business CEO's and business practices in general

I was thinking much the same about cafeterias and their close cousins, buffets. 25-30 years ago, there were many of them here in San Antonio, found in every neighborhood. Right now, I can think of only a handful, and those are mainly Chinese and Indian buffets. I don't know of a single remaining...

    The Beretta M9

I had a cousin, now deceased, who was a judge for almost 40 years. He always carried a Beretta 1951 under his robe. Pretty sure he never needed to use it.

    Nevada has been hacked

Does anyone remember how to use smoke signals? On a more serious note, I have been investing in cybersecurity stocks and ETFs over the past two years, and they have been doing well.

Kodak is still in the film business, sort of. There was a post-bankruptcy spinoff from Kodak that continued the manufacture of some varieties of film, but it was later sold to another company, which I believe is still operating under the Kodak name, even though it is not a part of Kodak. And...

    Chief James E. Boggs

I have a bottle of some ancient penetrating oil. Likely from the 1940s, maybe even earlier, but I have no idea what is in it. Fairly thin, not greasy, and not much of an odor. Anyway, the stuff works great on removing rust in conjunction with brass wool (Chore Boy). I just brush it on the rusty...

    My Victory

Highly likely to be a DSC Victory, intended for stateside use, not military. It should not have a property stamp on the topstrap.

Possibly a correct assessment. Customer expectations and preferences do change over time. My experience with CBRL is very limited, only one visit over 10 years ago, maybe closer to 15. The service was so bad that my wife nixed ever returning. She had quite a blowup with the manager.

Business CEO's and business practices in general

Having considerable experience in retail banking and S&Ls, I would never recommend considering them as employers. I have observed that upper management of such institutions are, likely as not, either crooks or morons, possibly both simultaneously. But in my position I saw mainly only the worst...

It is more like a few large shareholders elect (select) the board members. At least in larger companies' BOD elections, the vast majority of smaller shareholders have not the remotest idea who is up for election to the BOD, nor anything about them, and just vote "For" for whatever names appear...

It was obvious that as early as the late 1980s that the Kodak film photography business model faced its impending doom. The problem was that the early digital cameras had few features, weak performance, and they were priced beyond the means of nearly everyone. Therefore, film based photography...

    Commercial Victory model

At war's end, military revolver components remaining in S&W inventory were assembled and finished, then sold on the civilian market beginning during the early months of 1946. That is probably what you have, given the SV prefix. Later the V part of the serial number prefix was dropped. You might...

I need advice on grips for my K22 Masterpiece.

There are several very obvious differences between Cokes and any other Magna N frame target grip design. But they were not designed for your K-22 as it is a K-frame. I would be happy to use a pair of any type of K-frame target grips with the Diamond around the grip screw. Actually, a good pair...

Fred Astaire with a nickel HE, with pearl grips!

I have never been much of a fan of Hollywood musicals. But no one today matches Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly as dancers. One of the very few movie musicals I have enjoyed was An American in Paris with Gene Kelly.

My favorite managerial shortsightedness story is Eastman Kodak. Kodak created the first digital cameras, which offered an enormous marketing advantage opportunity. Yet the corporate leadership continued for years to pour nearly all company efforts and resources into manufacturing and marketing...

    Identity help, please!

Some of the earlier BSRs were shipped with 6" barrels. Just how many, I do not know. The British were not picky about such things at the time, so long as bullets could leave the muzzle. But most of the wartime BSRs had 5" barrels. From what I can make out, I would say the grip SN is a match. The...
