    The Best .22 Ever Made

Yes, the top three .22 rifles are Marlin 39M, followed by Marlin 39A, with third place awarded to Winchester 9422. Honorable mention to Remington 542 Fieldmaster.

    Woods Carry 357 Search

Good recommendation. I carry either 2 1/2” models 19 or 66 as my woods walk carry - either is easy packing.

    Double Action with .357 Magnum

I’m fortunate to live close to a club that runs monthly PPC matches April - Oct and I compete in the stock revolver division using a Model 686 or, on occasion, a Model 28. For concealed carry division I’m using 2.5” Model 19 or Model 66. My understudy is the Model 617. PPC is great for honing...

    Sporting Clays Anyone ?

Lehigh Valley is a nice course. The owner is a NRA Board Member. Depending where you live in PA, you have access to a lot of good SC courses, including Blue Ridge Sportsman outside Harrisburg, Carlisle Fish & Game, M&E Sporting Clays in Hamburg and more. Sporting Clays can become addictive.

How would you build a long range varmint rifle?

I agree with “Shotguncoach.” I have two Savage Model 12 Low Profile Varmit rifles, a 22-250 with 1:9 barrel twist and 243 with 1:9.25 barrel twist. With the 22-250, I’m shooting 60 to 70 grain bullets accurately to 450 yards. Beyond 450 yards, I’m using the 243 with 75 to 87 grain bullets...

    Load recipes for 45 Colt

My 1979 Ruger likes 9 gr of Unique for standard pressure loads and Blue Dot for Ruger-only loads. I’ve not experienced any significant deviation issues using Blue Dot for Ruger-only loads shooting Hornady 250 grain bullets.

Does anyone make hunting coats anymore??

LLBean has what you are looking for - Men’s Double L Waxed Cotton Upland Coat in loden color. I have the same coat in brown and have bird hunted in in for more than 10 years. Good quality and has held up well. Currently on sale for $225. Only complaint - I’ve grown some during the last 10...

A couple of real beauties at the range today

I use Matchdot II red dot by Ultradot on my 41 for Bullseye competition. I highly recommend Ultradot products.

    Is Armscor ammo good?

I too bought a case of 5000 SV from Outdoor Limited. To date, I have shot it in S&W 17, 617, 41 and Colt Trooper with few problems. No dirtier than the various CCI or Federal products I shoot. I experienced an average of 5 FTF per 500 rounds, the majority of which fired when rotated and struck...

    Who Packs a 6" N Frame?

My woods or farm walkabout revolver is either S&W 629 Mountain Gun or Ruger Blackhawk with 4 5/8” barrel in 45 Colt. Use to carry 6” S&W 28, but wanted something little more compact. Weighing only 38oz, the Ruger is a lot of gun.

Opinions of Colt Trooper MK III

I’ve owned a 6” in 22LR since 1982. Shot untold 1000’s of rounds without any problems. Also used as my bullsye gun for a couple years when my eyes were younger. Everyone needs at least one revolver with a cylinder that rotates clockwise.

    Remington "Targetmaster" 148WC "index" 6138

Good article titled “New Powders for 38 Special” in February 2024 Shooting Times magazine. Using 7” S&W 686 Plus to test 148gr WC bullets from Acme, Hornady, Remington and Zero. Best 20 shot group was 1.01” at 25 yards with Remington 148 HBWC, 2.7gr of W244 powder and Federal 100 primers. 2.7gr...

    Model 41 ammo recommendation

I use a Model 41 in bullseye competition, shooting more than 8000 rounds per year of CCI and Aguila standard velocity ammo. Both function equally well and have similar accuracy. Aguila can currently be delivered to your home for less than $29 per 500.

    Suggestion for K-32 revival

I have a 6” S&W 16-4, 5.5” Ruger Single Six in 32 H&R Mag and 4” S&W 31. All are accurate and love S&W Long with 98 grain HBWC bullet with 2.0 grains of Bullseye. On occasion, I shoot the 16-4 in outdoor bullseye league. Only wish I had larger holes to improve my score 😄

    Early K-22 Extraction Issues

Yes, I bought a Manson. It is a great reamer and have loaned to others for use. My Model 17 shipped in 1964 required reaming, my K-22 shipped in 1952 did not, but my 22/32 Target (pre Model 35) shipped in 1955 did require reaming.

    My New CZ Hammer

Take a look at CZ’s Bobwhite G2 in 20 gauge with double triggers, 28” barrel and available in right or left cast. CZ currently has $100 rebate on them. Great SxS for the $.

    Which .45 for bedside "duty?"

I have the good fortune to share the bed with my lovely young bride. We are both comfortable with S&W Model 10’s with 4” barrels. More than adequate and thought it was good to have the same his and her guns when things go bump in the night.

    Mexican Aguila (Nightmare) 22 LR

I compete in a bullseye league with my S&W Model 41 and use only two ammunitions - CCI SV and Aguila SV. Have fired 10’s of 1000’s of each and both are equally accurate and reliable in my 41. No complaints with Aquila ammo.

Who Here Carries An “Old School” Gun?

My EDC is either S&W Model 19 with 2 1/2” barrel or S&W M&P with 2” barrel shipped in 1948. I shoot both in PPC concealed carry matches and always pleased how well you can shoot them at 25 yards.
