A new factory Smith with an action job, no lock, whatever else I want & a warranty

A new factory Smith with an action job, no lock, whatever else I want & a warranty I’ve had my own idea for a wish list for a while but even more so since Taran Tactical (Taran Tactical Innovations) and other similar business models have become more popular. It’s been a popular concept in the...

    Pinnacle High Performance

I might be a bit late here but yes, Mark did my 629. He cut it from 6” down to 5” plus an action job, cylinder chamfer and interchangeable sight system with 2 sights made (XS tritium from shotgun cut and adapted plus a gold bead from scratch). I wouldn’t hesitate to send anything to Mark and I...

    Partridge sight options, 648-2?

Hi Viz on 617 Hi Mike, I went through the same thing last year. I resolved to swap the front sights on all my new style pinned front revolvers to gold beads. However, I could not find one in a rimfire height. So, I did the Hi Viz green fiber optic front sight. I shot mine last week and don't...

NEW Python: First Impressions (Has Issues)

Beat me to it! Congratulations on your Python JayFramer! I stopped by a local range/gun shop today to see if they had one in person. They did but it was already spoken for. However, the woman behind the counter let me inspect it. I haven't shot it so I can't speak to that but I handled it for...

    M66 Cylinder Lock-up

Model 66-8 2.75" Lock Up And here are pictures of the Model 66-8 2.75" where the ball detent system is mounted onto the frame in the form of the "cube" which Vanderbilt mentioned. The ball locks into a notch in the yoke when closed. Hopefully that helps! Seems that not all Model 66-8's are the...

    M66 Cylinder Lock-up

4.25" lockup I noticed the same thing. For what it’s worth, the shorter model 66 ball detent system seems a little more mechanically intricate but I’ve not had any lock up problems with either. I’ve shot a range of ammo from wadcutter .38’s to fast 125gr to HSM and Buffalo Bore Bear/Animal...

(Relatively) Affordable 148gr Wadcutter Match Ammo

I'm happy to share! I just acquired a 14-3 and I am excited to try some 148gr wadcutters. From what I read, it is supposed to be a perfect match.

(Relatively) Affordable 148gr Wadcutter Match Ammo

I figured I share this because it's quite a bit below normal market price. It's 148gr Wadcutter Gold Medal Match @ 19.99/box. For the reloaders it's not a big deal but for those of us who don't this is a pretty good deal. Here is the link where I found it: Federal Gold Medal 38 Special Ammo 148...

Looking for a good Smith wheelgun gunsmith. Any suggestions?

I've had Alex Hamilton of 10 ring work on my Model 66 and Mark Hartshorne of Pinnacle work on my 629. Both did excellent work but Mark was definitely a available for communications when it came to asking about options, recommendations, etc. Alex was more along the lines of "fill out the form...

629-6 grips for double action shooting

I've been down this road, recently as well. For tons of grip without much recoil protection, I love the VZ's. For lots of recoil protection, the Pachmayr 02480 grips are quite stick and really soften the blow. Here is an amazon link...

New Model 66 Combat - Questions

Not acceptable I've got both the 4.25" (purchased 2014) and the 2.75" (purchased April 2018). Neither pistols have marks like yours. Glad to hear the shop is taking care of it.

I’ve located the pins, thanks everyone for your help and advice.

Hidden Polished Pins or Soldered Front sight? Model 14-3

I haven't shot it yet but I will try it stock before I do anything to the sights. That being said, I don't love my 617 partridge sights. So much so that I'm putting a green fiber optic into it (Hi Viz specifically made for 617) and I'll see what I think. My cut down 629 has a gold bead that I...

Hidden Polished Pins or Soldered Front sight? Model 14-3

Thats encouraging to hear, I was worried about having to have it milled. I still can't see it, even with the pictures blown up on my desktop. bigggbbruce, do you think you'd able to highlight or circle the outline in the picture and repost it? There is no risk of that happening Dave! I'm...

Hidden Polished Pins or Soldered Front sight? Model 14-3

I just picked up a shooter grade (bluing missing, scratches, not original grips, no box, etc) Model 14-3 and Model 17-4 as winter projects. Both guns were well under $500 and I plan sprucing them up and using them to punch paper till they give out. Part of said sprucing will be new front sights...

    They said a 5" Partial Lug 629 didn't exist....

Interesting. I'll see what I can come up with.

    They said a 5" Partial Lug 629 didn't exist....

I've looked at his in his album. It's a 5" half lug nickel plated Model 29 from 1958. Definitely a rare piece to have left the factory that way. On the same token, I have seen a Model 57 or two with a 5" half lug online but never in person.

Next grail... 686 or 629 MG:

I thought so too! I went back and forth on it but the machinists and smiths I spoke with were very concerned about being able to keep the barrel evenly cooled while doing it. Price wise it was sixes so I opted for the cut down and got DX style sights out of it.

    They said a 5" Partial Lug 629 didn't exist....

Everyone has been posting about .44 magnums today so I figured I share mine. In 2016, I decided I wanted a .44 Mag as a "field gun" that was still fun on the range. I wasn't super interested in the Model 69, and wanted a 5" N Frame. Personally, I despise full lugs more than the dreaded internal...
