There’s just something about snub nose revolvers!

Yeah, I kinda like ‘em too! Here are two leaf spring I frames and a Baby J. 🐸

    Help identifying Model 59 sights

Thank you!! I thought they were gone. Long ago, I thought of replacing the fixed rear sight on my High Standard Sentinel revolver with the one made for Gov’t Models. I may get one yet. 🐸

    Help identifying Model 59 sights

Is MMC still in business, or is anyone still making their product line? They made some neat little sights for some guns for which there were no substitutes. I remember first reading about their products in articles fromthe late Skeeter Skelton. IIRC, he had them fit their compact little...

    32 H&R Magnum Reloads

Any idea of using cast lead alloy bullets? Folks who can’t spell (“Cast Boolits” forum) discuss this round a lot, also on “Art and Science of Bullet Casting” there has been a lot of discussion. I like 95-105 gr bullets with a charge of w231. I won’t quote from my admittedly spotty memory, but...

    Need some help .32 HE

Which version (or vintage) of the I frame is it? If it's an Improved I frame or a Model 1953, the hammer (and firing pin) should be similar. I don't know how different they would be from the hammer nose used in the leaf spring type I frames. If it were me, I'd be looking for a replacement...

    Powder Valley Destroyed

A sad day indeed. I haven’t ordered from them for many years, but when I did, I always got great service. I’ve still got a couple of jugs of H108 form my last order about 20 years ago. I wish them well and hope they will be able to rebuild. It is fortunate that they were able to save their...

    32 HE Prices Increasing?

Welcome to the madness! I’ve owned several I frame 32s over the years, but my all time favorite is a 1950 vintage 32 HE snub. It’s completely original down to the numbered factory grips, and it just feels “right” in my hand. 😄 🐸

    32 & 38 Regulation Police

Speaking of 6” I frame guns, has anyone seen a 6” RP in 38 S&W caliber? Years ago a NOS barrel for one showed up at a well known parts dealer, and when told about it a serious collector member here scarfed it up as an extreme rarity. That’s the only reference I’ve seen to a 2” barrel in 38...

    Hamilton Bowen 45 Colt

These are the kind of conversions that make perfect sense to me, using a fairly common “donor” gun and reworking it to something the factory doesn’t make, or made in low enough numbers to be extremely difficult to obtain. Sorry to hear that Bowen is retiring, but we all get older and his body...

    machining extractor star

My one experience with the later style extractor was when I had a later 617 cylinder reamed to 327 Fed Mag. My gunsmith told me it was extra work for him and charged accordingly. Now when I look for 22 cylinders to convert, I look for the older style. 🐸

Copper Coated .22 vs Bare Lead

A point not mentioned yet is the current, noticeable variation from lot to lot of the same brand. This is why some dealers offer trial packs of several different brands and lots. Then, after testing them all, the customer can order a larger amount of the one their gun “likes.” Did that...

    Model 30-1

While collectors clutch their pearls and gasp, I would maintain that the 30-1 and its 31-1 sibling are mainly attractive to have their chambers reamed a bit and become 32 H&Rs. While not a true magnum in any sense, they still get a more potent punch while retaining compact size. Let the flames...

    Terrier purpose vs .38 special

The original I frame Terrier had one major feature in its favor. It was the smallest solid frame 38 revolver S&W ever made. This was lessened as the grip frame was lengthened in 1953 and lost altogether as the longer cylinder of the J frame (32-1) made it identical and size and weight to the...

    Conversion of 32 to 32H&R

I believe that is why MTGianni said that. While the I frame will probably take the hot loads for a while (don’t ask me how I know this!) it’s not a good idea to subject them to that abuse. If you save your hotter loads for 32 H&R cases, you won’t accidentally slip one into your beloved pre War...

Post war Regulation Police Target 4"

That’s the problem with those I frame targets. Although they apparently weren’t big sellers when they were in production, nowadays, almost everyone who sees one wants one. Sorry guys, but there just aren’t that many of them out there! Oh well, “Hope springs eternal…” 🐸

    My 6" .32 Regulation Police

The first I frame I got was over 40 years ago. It had a 6” barrel and that sweet trigger pull the later J frames could never duplicate. Unfortunately, it had a sort of leprous nickel finish the really damaged its value. On a brighter note, somewhere along the way it acquired a hand tooled...

    Gun Show Score.....

I paid $39.95 plus tax for a used RCBS set for labeled for 32 S&W L and H&R. It included both seating plugs and the shell holder… but that was at least 30 years ago at a gun shop known then for bargains. You did well! 😀 If Starline has H&R brass in stock now, I suggest you order all you think...

    4" barrel model 60?

The Model 631 with adjustable sights came with a 4” barrel, so the precedent for a 4” J frame is set. I wouldn’t mind replacing the 3” underlug barrel on my 60-4 with a 4” long standard diameter barrel. I think I would like the additional sight length more than the addition weight. 🐸

    32 HE Prices Increasing?

Mine is just a year or so younger than yours, Frailer. When I found it on a gun show table about 20 years ago, I had a hard time parting with $350 to buy it… I’d buy all I could find at that price today! 🐸
