Lucky Gunner Ammo Tests - Some "Sacred Cows" Take A Hit

We did some backyard tests when our block of jell showed up last fall. Speer 158gr LSWCHP 38spl +P loads per Ramshot's data book actually worked as well as if not better than the Remington FBI load. That said, we had some bizarre bullet turns, but were fine from our 642s. When we shot 145gr...

Winchester .357 Magnum Silvertip 145 grains

This is pretty good stuff and the rebate makes it more appealing as well. Free shipping on it from Midway, and last day for the rebate it tomorrow.

Best 40S&W/10mm "carbide" sizing die for reloading 357 SIG?

I loaned a buddy of mine e the Redding push through sizer to get rid of the "smile" and he then full length resized all his brass before sorting. He was having an awful time with jams and had heard that 357SIG benefits from this as well. He also lubed with OneShot spray before starting out...

Is there a gen2 M&P on the way?

I overheard at the LGS and from someone picking up a police trade in that there is a "gen2" on the way. Is that just the M&P with the larger sear spring or is it something else? I've found no confirmation else where.

    Bud's 9mm police trade in...

Just a follow up for those that were asking. It is a 9mm full size M&P police trade in. I paid $349 (cash discount) and $15 for my FFL transfer. It came with the 2 extra grip sizes, factory box, and no other docs. Inventory sticker on the side was not helpful in finding out which department...

    Bud's 9mm police trade in...

I dropped the $$$ on a used one for backup purposes. I like my 40 and 9 I already have and was looking for a possible spare but wanted it as cheap as possible. Pretty was not a requirement. These guns are not in "bad" shape and need a serious cleaning. I put mine in the ultrasonic cleaner for...

JUST TESTED THE "NEW" REMINGTON HTP FBI LOAD VS THE OLD ONE

New stuff is slower... I just tested this with denim (4 layers) and 4 jugs of water with schreded newspaper. Old lot of Remington was 99FPS faster and mushroomed nicely from my Charter Arms 2" as well as my 6.5" ruger blackhawk. New stuff... it did mushroom, but, not as much and did NOT make...

    Bare Necessities for .38 Special

It ain't fast, but it is cheap and relatively easy to start with the Lee Loader and just a few tools. http://www.beartoothbullets.com/tech_notes/archive_tech_notes.htm/51 I would recommend you get a hand priming tool vs. using the Lee Loader for this step. Otherwise, a nice good condition...

    Lube bullets by hand?

Pan lubing is not hard... but it can get messy Lots of recipes for pan lubing. It tends to work a bit easier with black powder (i.e. soft lube) vs high speed pistol and rifle lubes. The pan lube I use for most cast bullets is pretty simple: 1- ring of bol-wax from the hardware store w/o the...

Which brass cases for 40s&w reloads???

Is there much of a difference between Speer, Win, Fed, or ...etc. when reloading for 40S&W? I am using 180gr Berry's FP plated bullets and normally use mixed headstamps, but, I'd like to keep things sorted going forward. Thoughts on sticking with SPEER/blazer brass vs FC? Everything gets run...

    180 gr LSWC. 357 2400 vs H110/w296

I've had better results with 357mag using 2400 and IMR4227 vs H110/W296/AA#9. That is with a S&W and Ruger revolvers. With my model 92 Rossi and Taurus revolvers, I've had slightly better results with W296. TrueBlue and BlueDot both work about the same but are not interchangable with other...

    P-11 keltec mags in 6904?

I know keltec owners regularly buy up the 59xx magazines for their P-11s, but, for my 6904, I want to know if it works the other way. Can I use a P-11 mag for my S&W?

    Chris Costa and Travis Haley

Kyle Lamb is a good instructor and has written good books. He too is an M&P fanboy and also uses GLOCKs. I built my 2nd AR15 almost exactly like what he had in his book. Sold it to fund another purchase. Then I picked up my VTAC M&P15 afterwards as I missed my KL inspired AR so much. Lots of...

    Mini-review: parkerized M&P40 mags from 44mag

Mil-tec is not just a lubricant but also a metal treatment. It will not collect dirt when heated to where it will dry. It has good saltwater resistance and has shown to work great for 1911 owners on the coasts. Not as hard to do as say powdercoating.

    Mini-review: parkerized M&P40 mags from 44mag

The springs were not hard to get cleaned up and heated. I used a heat gun on med setting and could tell the mil-tec was warm enough by looking at it. The inside I left alone from the painting and just treated it. I did polish and debur the magazine followers, though. I only have 2 cycles...

    Police trade in M&P40 review...

I am not aware of any new M&P coupons as of late. So civilians will need to pony up full price or wait for more tradins. Asfar as thespring under the sear, it was one with the larger size. And I used it as a way of putting latteral pressure on the pin where the magazine disconnect used to be...

    Mini-review: parkerized M&P40 mags from 44mag

$19 each is a pretty good deal. But, they don't drop as fast out of the shoot as does factory/coated mags. So, I took the 6 I ordered and cleaned/degreased them and then coated the with AluminHyde II (flat black). I used my heat gun for 2-3 min on each one to do a quick dry off and they will...

    Police trade in M&P40 review...

I already have a full size 45, midsize 45, full size 9 and 40. I was not really interested in picking up another M&P full size, but, thought the deal was too good to pass up. And I had a spare DCAEK for a full size M&P9/357/40 that I had won in a raffle. So, I grabbed the last one they had in...

    Remington Golden Saber 230gr +P

I seem to recall purchasing a couple smaller boxes many years ago (2004) but I have not seen any in quite some time. Anyone know if these are still available?
