A 25-5 Shows Up at the Show Yesterday

I've got a 4" pinned 25-5 that had "super tight" throats. In fact, I had them opened up to .453" for my cast bullet loads. Every other of my model 25's have throats in the .456" range. I cast my bullets to .455", so all is well.

A 25-5 Shows Up at the Show Yesterday

The early 25's had a reputation for large throats (.455/.456") in their cylinders.

Think I got the stocks right for 1959....opinions solicited please

Yes, those magnas are from early in the post-war period. You need magnas with a more gradual rounding instead of the sharp rounding on your grips.

    No Expanding Die for .223?

With rifle dies, the expanding is done by an expander ball located on the decapping pin of the resizing die. As you remove the case from the resizing die, the expander ball does it's work.

    Keg of old powder

Don't know what it is, but it is definitely not IMR4895 which is an extruded powder.

    Question to y'all

azhobo, I would suggest you search on the NRA's website for a local NRA Certified Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor offering classes. I am one, and I can tell you that he will learn much more with hands on instruction than he will from any book.

A way around this is to partial resize the case. Only resize the case as far as the expander reaches.

    M1 Garand reloading 2.0

Even if you managed to somewhat match the color of walnut, you will never be able to match the grain and it will always stick out as a birch stock.

    M1 Garand reloading 2.0

You can't stain it to match walnut. In fact, I have been selling my stain for 15 years, and I tell my customers it just plain won't work on birch or beech wood. https://forums.thecmp.org/forum/marketplace/parts-for-sale-or-trade/other/22141-wts-ussr-service-rifle-stain-ny

Your front handguard looks good, but you really need to replace that birch stock and rear handguard with walnut. ;)

    Best $300 I ever spent. 25-5

Yep. All you have to do is look at a 25-2 and 25-5 to see how much more the 25-2's barrel protrudes into the cylinder opening to match up with the 25-2's short cylinder.

My first venture into loading the 38 special wadcutter

Nope, wadcutters must be seated flush with the case mouth. Since your bullets protrude past the case mouth, they will not fit into a Model 52 magazine.

My first venture into loading the 38 special wadcutter

I bought it years ago as once-fired brass when it was readily available. The things to look for are: Winchester and Remington brass have 2 cannelures, one about mid-case and the 2nd one just above it. Federal has just a single cannelure located about .375" down, whereas their regular brass...

Hmmm, forgive me, but I neglected to look between your legs, otherwise I would have agreed with what you say.

That's why I use brass specifically designed for wadcutter ammo.

Ah, Tabby. I am a person who doesn't believe in doing things that are completely unnecessary and are not done by those who compete at the highest level. Have you ever heard of Bullseye Competition? This is a sport in which the shooter shoots one-handed at targets at 25 and 50 yards...

Yep. You are simply doing something extra that really has no measurable impact.
