It may take some getting used to (if you were to train yourself to hold that way), but I agree it just isn't comfortable for me. I was never taught how to hold a rifle, I just picked it up and through observation of others found my particular grip/stance/style through my own trial and error...

I've thought the same, but for me its fairly comfortable. It may not be that bad of a hold if this guy typically holds his rifles this way (former Air Force PJ and Army Ranger Wil Willis) Don't mean to argue, just bringing some evidence to the table.

Very nice write-up. Before I bought my 15-22, I was renting one at my local range. It looked just as dirty as yours, and not once did I have an issue any times I rented it. I have personally put over 1300 rounds through it in two weeks time, and have not seen any evidence of cleaning. Hard...

I think my main concern with aluminum vs polymer is that polymer is very rigid, where as aluminum can bend if you torque it enough, i.e. drop your weapon. Also polymer doesn't rust ;) I would support aluminum reinforcements or even an aluminum rail at the least. I think if I wanted a metal...

The Cabelas in KC usually carries a lot of Magpul. Last time I was in they had even had three 15-22 mags - I bought 2 of them (why only 2 I don't know :()

With all the crazy "mods" we can do to these rifles, I wonder if anyone out there has lopped off the polymer buffer tube and installed a mil-spec (or commercial) buffer tube. Not something I think I would take on personally, but I bet it's possible.

Well I think I'm done with my 15-22 "build", save for a barrel shroud. Most of you will notice a lot of HK furniture on it. ;) I love the looks of the HK 416-22 over the 15-22, but no way would I buy the Umarex paper weight, so I imported some Umarex 416-22 parts I got on the cheap.
