    Collecting Themes

I'm Baack Well, I vanished for five months. I got interested in other things, including self-publishing and promoting two books. But I kept working on the S&W collecting theme I described when I started this thread. The idea was to memorialize my shooting and collecting days (I'm disabled...

help identify a stainless model 36

Are the hammer and trigger case-color? Hard chrome looks like stainless, but it's worth a factory letter for sure.

Yep. This thing of ours ... :D

    Help With a Decision

No, for me to keep as a collector and a shooter. The thing is, I'll never find the original numbered magna stocks for the 14, whereas the targets wouldn't have been numbered -- and the 14 is really nice! I could start looking for diamond targets for the 19 as well, and sell the magna stocks...

    WYOMING GUN SHOW

That's a long drive from Florida, but I'll be there in spirit. Private collectors ... few dealers ... minimum black rifles ... my favorite!

    Help With a Decision

I have a Model 14-1 (circa 1961) and a Model 19-2 (circa 1964) that are in the hands of a friend in New Orleans. He'll be bringing them over to me this month (I hope) to complete a trade. I bought both guns back in 2013. I have $650 in the 14 and about the same in the 19. The 14 has diamond...

    Devaluing a NIB gun?

Absolutely. The technical term is "box bite."

    Devaluing a NIB gun?

No, don't. These discussions give *context* to our strange passion for this thing of ours. Back to the topic, sort of ... Back in the day when I used to set up at shows a friend and I would offer a special service to collectors: "For just $100 we will fire your ANIB gun for you, thus relieving...

    Devaluing a NIB gun?

I've always liked high condition Smith revolvers. But every time I have bought an ANIB gun I have regretted it. What am I supposed to do with it? I'm not a museum curator. I like the situation more when I'm a conservator -- cleaning and restoring a poorly kept example and bringing it back to as...

    Wood stock ID

Didn't Smith sell their own original stocks as aftermarket products? I once had a pair of K frame magnas that had numbers stamped on them that were clearly not serial numbers. If that was to be the case then such stocks would be "correct" for any period matching gun that wears them.
