    Mdl 52-2 extractor problem

Well now.... I compared the ejector arm in my 52 with the one on my 539 (closest I have to the 52) and find the one in the 52 is about .065 shorter than the one in the 539. Under the microscope it definitely looks broken. If I hadn't looked at the one in the 539, I wouldn't have noticed the...

    Mdl 52-2 extractor problem

A new day at the range. Five shots Remington factory ammo: On the third shot, the case didn't extract and the slide stripped a new round on top of it. Rest of the magazine was fine. New reloads. Fifty rounds. I went up to 3.0 BE and a lighter crimp. I had had a few 5 shot strings with no...

    Mdl 52-2 extractor problem

Tom, I changed the recoil spring and then I shot some rounds with only one round in the magazine with the following results: 1) Case ejected normally. Slide locked open. 2) Case failed to eject but the rim remained under the extractor. This looks like a short cycle. 3) Case failed to eject...

    Mdl 52-2 extractor problem

Thanks for all the great information. I've been using 2.8 Bullseye in the reloads. Gun is clean in the chamber and under the extractor. Happens with all 8 magazines that I have. As I said in the first post, what is weird to me (maybe not to others) is that I can still hand cycle and get perfect...

Both factory Remington and reloads. Both cycled fine until this started. Spence

    Mdl 52-2 extractor problem

My 52-2 won't extract the case from the chamber when cycling after firing but never fails to extract and eject if hand cycled. I know the case isn't getting out of the chamber because the slide strips another round out of the magazine and tries to load it in the still full chamber. If it were...

New to reloading - unheated garage?

Thanks again to all who answered with advice. As I said I decided to build a new bench in a corner of my home office. That way if my mind wanders from my gainful employment I can load a few hundred rounds and refresh my concentration. :D Here are a couple of pics of my new loading bench. I just...

New to reloading - unheated garage?

Thanks for all the great input. I have decided to suck it up and build a new bench in a small office I have in the house. It has a wood floor so I should be able to deal with powder spills safely and find a primer if I drop one. The joke is I have a shop with a heated concrete floor on the...

New to reloading - unheated garage?

Not at this house. Basements are below the water table here. Sometimes they try to float. Had one in my last house and had to run a de-humidifier all the time. Spence

New to reloading - unheated garage?

I live in an area where it rains all winter, though it doesn't often get real cold. I am setting up my first reloading bench and the most convenient place I have is the garage, where I already have a very stout bench made from maple bowling alley about 1 1/2" thick. My worry is that, with the...

    Great transaction with tomdrpm...

Very clear pictures and description of gun. Very accommodating and friendly. After I agreed to buy the gun he volunteered more pictures to be sure I would be happy with it. Gun was better than his description. I'm very happy with the transaction. Spence

    Help dating a 52-2

Seems like there might be a mistake about A115XXX being the earliest 52-2. I have a 52-2 that is A104XXX. It doesn't look transitional. It has all the 52-2 features. I have seen two on GB in the A106XXX range in the last couple of weeks. Hunter, did you buy one of those on GB? The slide on mine...

    Model 52-2 help

If you are using factory ammo, a lot of it is intended for revolvers and isn't hot enough to cycle a 52. I'd try some Remington ammo and if that doesn't work, you might try a different recoil spring. Using good factory ammo is a quick way to tell if it's the ammo or the gun. Hang in there, they...

    M-52 Value these days?

I bought a pretty nice Mdl 52-2 on Gun Broker with very little bluing loss for $700 a couple of months ago. I would guess a pretty low round count. It has a fabulous 2.5 trigger and shoots like a dream. It had Packmayr grips. I put some stock checkered walnut grips back on it. I have two and...

    Mdl 539 trigger

TEB, thanks for the input. I often do what you suggest but, "ride the reset" or not, it's still an almost 7 pound pull. All you do is loose some the 2.5 lb take up, which is not really the problem. I shouldn't expect a service/self-defense gun to have a target trigger. I just want it smoother...
