Figured it out, just took 3 hands. Had to lift the firing pin along with positioning the hammer.

What am I doing wrong? with the trigger all the way back, I can wiggle the hammer up but either the sear goes under the hand or the firing pin is still in the frame. I tried to "seesaw" it out based on the Kuhnhausen description but no go. Looks like the notch in the hand is not deep enough...

Ed- Lot of good info in this thread, here's my input; If you aren't shooting in a discipline where the precise cut a HBWC puts on the target is an advantage, I'd pick another bullet. The DEWC is a good bullet and loads easier, SWC loads even better and round nose loads great from a speed...

So I finally registered - long time S&W shooter, currently have a 586 customized for USPSA, 686 Classic Hunter, 34, 14-3 and looking for a 617. Live in Central California.
