Need Help with a 1911 rear sight spring replacement

Thanks so much everyone. My springs just got to the point where they are not pushing up the sight very strongly. They sort of work, but I would rather change them out.

Need Help with a 1911 rear sight spring replacement

I need to replace the two small rear sight elevation springs on my PC S&W 1911, 45 ACP, adjustable sight. S&W will not sell me a set. They insist I send in the entire slide. Seems I should be able to find a replacement set online, but I can not be sure given the descriptions I am finding on...

    question about sighting in a S&W 1911

I have a S&W 1911 with target sights. The gun is sighted in to what I think is called a 6:00 setting. When the front blade is properly aligned in the rear sight, I make the very bottom of a three inch red circle sit just touching the top of the front blade and at 15 yards the round goes...

    1911 PC Problem

I am sorry to hear this, as I bought a PC 1911 a month ago and now the same thing is happening to mine. But for now I am off to read up on how people are getting that bushing in and out of the barrel. I know tight is good for bushings, but this is a bit much.

Question, please, for SW 1911 E series Owners

Thanks guys; wish I could try one out first with the combat sights but no shop around here has any new smith and wesson. They say they have ordered them but new smith and wessons don't usually make it to their shop, perhaps because they are small and rural? I don't know how that stuff works...

Question, please, for SW 1911 E series Owners

You bet I have looked at the Performance Center 1911!!! I did look at the 9mm 1911-style Pro Series Smith and Wessons. VERY nice too, but a bunch of old threads on that one seemed to indicate some people had problems, whereas the E series seems to have ironed out any issues from the earlier...

Question, please, for SW 1911 E series Owners

The new E series 45. 1911s look like they come with fixed sights. I am trying to target shoot, so I would not be using the gun for tactical or SD stuff. Are these setup in the factory so that the shooter aligns the front blade in the standard way and then the POI will be the top of the front...

    LRN vs Wadcutter

Funny you should mention this. I just bought a box of Geco 38 SPL and when I opened the box one of the bullets had fallen out of the casing and the box had a sprinkling of "powder grains" all over it. So I guess checking for consistency is not such a bad idea.

    LRN vs Wadcutter

    Thanks Everyone.....this answers my question!

    LRN vs Wadcutter

For the noncompetitive shooter who is trying to develop accuracy but is not in match competition, is it likely that one company's LRN 158 grain bullet will be roughly the same in accuracy as their wadcutter? Again, not for competition or scoring but general accuracy. Or, are wadcutters so...

ammo prices: then and now question

Wow, ten bucks a box for 9 mm. That was a great deal. I am new to anything other than 22. and so the 13-16 dollars a box is all I have every seen. Probably some people who are new to this do not know how reasonable the prices used to be. There are several people around here loading "new...

ammo prices: then and now question

I called a small sport/gun/fishing shop down the road from me and the guy said that the little ammo he is getting in is not costing him any more than it did four months ago. His prices are still what they were four months ago. I was relieved to hear that the ammo manufacturers have not raised...

ammo prices: then and now question

Last night, I went to some of the large ammo sellers' websites to get an idea of what different 9mm ammo used to sell for. I wanted a sort of baseline to measure how inflated the prices would be at a local show coming up, and I remembered looking at those websites a few months ago and...

Final Question on sighting my new 686

I know it is something I just have to understand and learn to live with, but this fact that different bullets of different weights group differently is driving me nuts, especially given the ammo shortage, which means I have to buy pretty much whatever is available. Glad I lucked into those...

Quick Question about buying a 686

She shot my 686 and really liked it. I think she reacted as I did, which is to feel that the trigger was just better than what she had experienced before on other brand guns. We've been looking on gunbroker. Now it seems to me that every gun I look at is slightly off in some way. When we...

Quick Question about buying a 686

I let my friend shoot my 686-3 and she really liked it and now is thinking about getting one. She asked me if I thought there was any reason not to just get a new one. Other than the lock, which I see many people do not like, is it worth hunting down a used 686 or if money is not the issue for...

Cylinder Lockup Question on used 686

Thanks. I wrote back and he told me he would not take the gun back if I judged it too loose and so maybe this is not the gun for me. I appreciate the help.
