To each their own... I like the "Mountain Gun", it looks nice. Good lines. But if weight is the issue then I'd be looking at a Model 69 (L frame 5 shot .44 Magnum). I know the Model 69 is made with 4.25in and 2.75in barrels. I have a 4in Model 69 and it is a sweet gun. I carry it in bear country...

Nice. Congrats. I'd recommend getting them ugly rubber Pachmayr "Presentation" grips off a find some legit S&W grips (off ebay), or check out any number of the wood grip manufacturers out there. Altamont makes grips for S&W, they'd be a great place to start looking for something that looks...

Just an FYI... I've not found any gun smith that will do this conversion. All I've found to any work of this sort is Cylinder and Slide, and they'll cut a dovetail and install one of their own sights. It will look like the Model 629-6 PC "v-comp"... and not sure I'd want to do that to that old...
