My novice take on current production S&W revolvers

Newer production methods provide a far superior cost to value ratio over old ways. As long as safety isn’t compromised, I don’t care. The “old is gold” mentality only helps those who want their old guns increase in value and what better than the classic phrase “they don’t make it...”. ;-) While...

My novice take on current production S&W revolvers

Out of curiosity, did the lack of clear etching of word make a difference to how the gun fired? Thank you.

    Un-gumming 617 action

Finally got around to cleaning this weekend. "Brakleen Chlorine Free-Brake-Cleaner" cleaner did the trick. Got it from my local Walmart for $3 or thereabouts. Here is what I did: 1. Sprayed/drenched the action two or three times at intervals of 15 minutes each. 2. After air drying for another...

    Un-gumming 617 action

Thanks fellas! Several ideas here that I'll work on in the course of next few days. I plan to take photos before and after, in hope it helps someone down the line. I'll update the thread about this cleaning experience.

    Un-gumming 617 action

I have searched everywhere, but did not find any reliable information, so finally thought of starting a new thread. Over the course of two years or so, the internals of my 617 have gummed-up - it appears froglube made its way inside the revolver and slowly gummed up the internals. So far I have...

    63 or 617

I had both, and decided to stick with the 617, as the 63 proved too small for my medium-large hands and I had the trigger pinch. Also with 4" barrel, the 617 is a tad more accurate. Best I would suggest handle both if possible and then decide.

    Closed-back wood grips for 617 (K-frame)

Can someone recommend closed-back wood grips for 617-6 (K-frame)? Wood color and type doesn't matter. I stumbled across Nill grips, but they are too expensive. No luck elsewhere. I am trying to closely approximate the stock rubberized grips on the 617. Thanks in advance.

    Proper Cleaning of a Revolver

Newbie here, and 617 is my first handgun. Have been reading the forum for a while now, and hopefully can start contributing. :-) I typically clean every 200 to 300 rounds since the revolver gets visibly dirty no matter what ammo. Here is how I clean my 617: 1. Wipe with a rag to remove debris...

Compact lockbox to store 617 4"

Realized my 617 doesn't fit in the Snap Safe lockbox. Comparing dimensions, I guess GunVault Nano Vaults won't work either. Can someone recommend a compact lockbox for the 617, with 4" barrel? Thanks.
