Even with a sharpie, the original type under it is usually still visible. If you are really paranoid about it, the only way to truly redact is to mark it out and then make a photocopy.

Mismatched or not, it's still a neat gun and in a more practical caliber that can still be easily shot with appropriate black powder loads as long as it is mechanically sound.

For a shooter grade gun, I would find 44-40 a more interesting and desirable caliber, but I'm not sure how that translates into collector value.
