Your Favorite 38 Spl +P 158 gr lead load

I purchased some CFE Pistol yesterday to try and find a replacement for Unique which is apparently a thing of the past at least locally. Anyways, 5.0 grains behind a Lee C358158 and Federal 100 primer is a great shooting and accurate load. It shoots to the same point of impact as the Buffalo...

    357 Magnum with HP38 158gr - 1,000 fps load???

Am I looking at the Hodgedon website wrong? For me it shows for a .357 158gr. HP-38 max 6.9, W321 max 6.9 Yes I was looking at XTP, sorry. But the Lee 2nd edition shows 6.7 for 231.

Your Favorite 38 Spl +P 158 gr lead load

I was working on my FBI replica load today but didn't venture into the +P area although it looks like I will have to. I am up to 6.0 grains of HS-6 with a Lee C358158 SWC gas checked. My average velocity was 819 fps. I am trying to get to 906-910 which is what I get with the Buffalo Bore Non +P...

Lyman 358-156 GC Best S&W Bullet

I just started in casting bullets and am using a Lee C358158 SWC. Seemed like a cheap way to get started. I have a set of Lyman handles for my Plains bullet mold for my Deer Stalker and hope to one day get the Lyman 358156. Everything I see is positive in this.

Range to zero a 3" revolver

I don't think it is too far, I just see a lot of talk here about 21 feet, 10 yards, etc. so I was trying to figure out what makes sense and if I should be even thinking about that distance. Actually 25 yards is where I think I should be zero'd at.

Range to zero a 3" revolver

Searched but didn't get what I was looking for so here goes. Most of the ballistics table I have seen even the ones for short barrel ammunition seem to start at 25 yards and then usually go in 25 yard increments. I enjoy shooting my M60-15 3" barrel and am looking for a good sight in distance...

    Ammo Tests

The jaggedness of the Black Talon just looks nasty.

    Chronographed 2 factory loads today

I would have thought so too but keep in mind this is "low recoil" non +P ammo.

    primer help for 9mm/38 etc.

I know that CCI makes quality products but haven't used them. As far as Federal goes, I have had excellent success with the Federal 100 small pistol primers. I haven't had a single failure.

Underwood/Buffalo bore 158 grain 38 special Gel tests???

I indeed got very similar velocities as they advertise. But since all guns are different, I just wanted to see what to expect with mine.

Underwood/Buffalo bore 158 grain 38 special Gel tests???

I didn't do any gel tests but did post some Crony data today with the BB Non +P using a 3" barrel. Might be worth a look. http://smith-wessonforum.com/ammo/470891-chronographed-2-factory-loads-today.html

    Chronographed 2 factory loads today

Yea, I like it as well but think the Speer 135 Gold Dot +P was more comfortable to shoot and maybe just a bit more accurate. Too bad they are so hard to find right now. In Black Diamond here.

    Chronographed 2 factory loads today

I finally got around to shooting some Buffalo Bore Non +P 158 grain SWCHP (20C) rounds today with my Model 60-15 3" barrel. I also shot some Federal Hydra Shock 110 grain 38 special ammo. The Buffalo Bore is definitely hot and the Federal is definitely not :D Here are the results from my gun.

    Working up a +P load

Thanks all, I really appreciate the input. I do have a chrony and luckily for me the club I belong to has the outdoor range just 5 miles away and no cost for me to shoot. So I can load up 10 of each level and head up to test them out, then come home and regroup before going on. If I do get into...

    Working up a +P load

Thanks ALK8944, I will probably start a little lower than the +P minimum just to see the differences in accuracy and feel. As far as maximum goes, Hodgdon, Lee, both give a max of 7.0 vs. Hornady's 7.4. Depending on velocities I record, I probably won't go as far as Hornady suggests.
