Has Anyone Received Their Ammo & Mag Loader??

Got the "you didn't do it right" letter from S&W's hired outfit yesterday. Sales slip from Grab-A-Gun not good enough. The Shield 45 is a pretty good gun; doesn't cover the insult though. To Hell with Smith & Wesson.

    What's your favorite K frame?

Um, is there such a thing as a K38 Masterpiece? If there is, that was my wanna revolver back when the world and I were young. If there is no such thing, maybe I lived then in an alternate universe.

37 years old and never been loved

The Model 15 seems to be better suited to a 6" barrel, until I think of the SA Army and all its look-likes. At least a minor accident with the 10 won't knock the rear sight out of line.

37 years old and never been loved

That is so nice. I've been staring at the pic, experiencing a 'tingle'. For some reason it never entered my mind that there are long barreled Model 10s; but why not?

Selling my Ruger LC9S in favor of a Shield 9mm

Was there a question about pocket carry back there? The shield requires a pretty big pocket, seems like.

Selling my Ruger LC9S in favor of a Shield 9mm

Sorry guy, I got lost in your 'its', couldn't figure out what you're telling me.

    110 GR .357

Hornady makes 110gr Critical Defense rounds in 38 Special+P (and 9x19). The bullet is hollow point with a plug in the 'hollow', shaped to initiate expansion. Heavy clothing must make that expansion begin 'early', but... There is nothing undoable about effective 110 in 357.

what type of rear notch to go with front gold bead?

Hah. Based on long ago experience with rifles, I would expect a bead front sight to be paired with a U-notch rear. Every day I learn (and forget) something.

That extra crimp that some cartridges have and some don't, what is it?

Except in tube magazines, where cartridges get thumped by rounds ahead of them in the tube, the phenomenon is reported to be in the other direction; inertia moves bullets forward in their cases during recoil.

Reconsidering thumb safeties on mouse guns... LC9s et al

In theory at least (I haven't experienced the life or death reality), the safety-off is part of the draw, as the gun is 'presented'. There is no extra time involved, though there is that 'complication' in the draw/present process. Some guns have a thumb safety that isn't very accessible - the...

Reconsidering thumb safeties on mouse guns... LC9s et al

"Well experienced"? I guess it depends on the nature of the experience. I'm guessing it wasn't with a 1911. Another 'forgot the safety' problem is related to range practice. Many ranges do not permit 'draw and fire' practice. If you have spent countless hours with an empty gun practicing draw...

Do you carry "+1" in your semi-auto?

Hah. I think I have identified my special Smith & Wesson Forum antagonist. The added resistance I refer to is not a continuation of gradual buildup; it comes on quickly and builds quickly. I believe that is an indication of over stress. I got the notion from a guy that claimed to be a 'spring...

Do you carry "+1" in your semi-auto?

Depends on the mag, mostly. Good example is the two mags that came with my Shield. When the sixth round is inserted in the 6 round mag, there is room for about another half a round. In the 7 round mag the seventh round meets didtinctly added resistance during the last part of insertion. I...

    S&W Model 10-8 Heavy Barrel

I have a 3" heavy barrel 10-8 round butt from 1979 (bought it late that year I think) that shoots fine. Plain black front sight on mine, but that doesn't mean the red insert wasn't available in 1981. The grips on mine extend close to the trigger guard on top, don't know if that means anything...

Racoon and .38 Special +P FBI Load

:) Those 13 shots were probably on the head, not in it. Black bear skull seems like a bunch of shallow angles that make for ricochets.

    The Safety Situation

They are not all equally safe. When the thumb safety on my Shield is engaged, the gun will not fire when pressure is applied to the lower part of the trigger. Note that I didn't type 'when the trigger is pulled'. You may consider the thumb safety to be the equivalent of a baby's pacifier, but...

    The Safety Situation

by Smoke: "The striker isn't fully cocked and it can't go forward until it is." Thanks, Smoke. That is probably the 'logical justification', when coupled with the hinged trigger, for considering the otherwise safety-less Shield safe to carry with a round in the chamber. I turned 80 today, but...

    The Safety Situation

My new Shield 45 is a keeper. Among other characteristics I like the short trigger travel (after take-up). Almost as short as my Witness 45 from full cock. Makes me suspect that the striker is at or near the equivalent of full cock. Which makes me wonder about the 'safeness' of the...
