Longtime Unique fan (38 / 357) needs options

I have not seen Unique for sale since the China Virus started. HP33 shows up now and then. Some of the others mentioned have always been scarce around here.

Longtime Unique fan (38 / 357) needs options

For 38 Special 148 grain wadcutters I use 2.7 grains of Bullseye. For 158 grain swc's I use either Bullseye or HP38/Win 231. I use a lot of Unique for my 44 Special loads, but never have used it for 38 Special.

45 Year Old Reloads Still Work Fine

I started reloading back in 1982 and lately I have noticed that some Bullseye I still had in an old cardboard canister from about 1985 just does not have as much pop as it used to have. I loaded some 38 Special 158 grain lead swc's and they were averaging about 510 fps or so out of my 10" TC...

    Killed a beautiful 1905

The one sticking out looks to be a jacketed bullet. I tried loading and shooting some jacketed hollow points in my 44 Special with a moderate load of Unique. The first round sounded kind of funny; so I looked at he end of the barrel. The top of the jacketed bullet was flush with the end of the...

    Conversion - Model 15 to 44 Special?

Well shortly before that I had gotten in the Lipsey 44 Special which was blued, and had been reloading for it, and had even put a Wilson trigger spring in it. Same cousin called me and said he had gotten in a Lipsey 44 Special just like mine, but in stainless steel (I thought "Oh Man!). Anyhow I...

    Conversion - Model 15 to 44 Special?

My cousin had a couple of them at his pawnshop, and I looked at them. But it appears they are all just 3". If S&W had made them with a 4" barrel, I would have probably gone for it. My thinking is that in order to take full advantage of the inherent accuracy of the 44 Special cartridge you need a...

    Conversion - Model 15 to 44 Special?

I had a 629 6" until I got my first 44 Special - a Lipsey NM BH 4 1/2". I sold the 629 not long after that; since I didn't shoot it anymore. It now looks as though I need to look at a Taurus.

    Conversion - Model 15 to 44 Special?

Due to the barrel shank diameter, etc., I am not sure if it is even feasible. I had noticed the Taurus 441 in 44 Special which allegedly has a K type frame; which got me thinking about it.

    Conversion - Model 15 to 44 Special?

Just thinking. I have noticed a time or two in different forums where it seems there are folks who will convert a Model 27 S&W (357 Magnum) to 44 Special. I have a Model 15 (38 Special) I bought a few years ago, and which I shot regularly until I got nice Model 67 no-dash (38 Special). The Model...

Good Powder Measure for throwing Unique

My RCBS powder measure is fairly accurate, and I need it to throw say 6.8 grains for 44 Special. But I certainly weigh each charge and if it is 1/10th of a grain low I use my old Hornady powder trickler (base weighted with a lead shot epoxy mix) to bring it up.

    Powder

Not seen Bullseye or Unique since the election of 2020. I would pay $40 for a pound if it was ever out there. I saw a pound of 4895 rifle powder at a local show. He had it tagged for $45 but agreed to sell it for $40. With Bullseye conceivably you could load 3,500 rounds of 32S&W long with one...

38 special brass- what brand do you like by best? Any to avoid?

I have noticed that brass with a WCC head stamp (Winchester head stamped cases do just fine) just does not crimp down well with my Lee 358 158 TL swc's. Not sure why, but I chunk them. BTW, after that I keep my S&W Model 67 handy and do a "plunk test" with it to make sure my loads will drop into...

Getting back into reloading after 10 years.

Win231/HP38 is the only powder I have found fairly frequently in my area. Not seen any Bullseye or Unique out there since the 2020 election.

Oh man! That's like fingernails on a chalk board - makes me cringe to read it.

    Model 67-1

I got my no dash 67 two or three years ago, and figuring cash plus boot I reckon I have about $650 in mine. I think yours would be certainly that amount if not more now.

    Model 67-1

I've had my 67 no dash for a few years. I had shot a model 15-3 for a spell, but not so much after the 67. Put a set of pachmayr grips on it for shooting. I use a Sharpie to blacken the sights when shootitng.

    Primers on the shelf

I had a surplus of CCI small rifle primers; so traded off 5 sleeves for 5 sleeves of CCI small pistol primers with a buddy who had a surplus of CCI small pistol primers. Both of us are happy.

.38 S&W/ Colt NP cast bullet options

There's 38S&W and 38S&W-380 200. I traded for a Victory model regulated for the 38S&W as it was stamped on the barrel. But it was regulated at 20 yards for the 380 200 British variation. I got in a set of 38S&W Dies and first tried reloading with hollow base wad cutters; however they shot at the...

    Why I Dumped My .38 $pecial.

I have not bought factory 38 Special SWC's in ages. For a spell I used Speer swaged SWC's, but I was afraid those would also be in short supply. So, about 3 years ago I got back into serious bullet casting. I already had a two cavity Lee wad cutter mold, but went ahead and got the Lee 358 158TL...

    Converted .455/.45ACP

Per Hatcher - Webley bullet diameter = .457, Colt 45 = .454, and 45ACP = .4515. A 455 conversion to 45 Colt or 45 ACP might not be very accurate either, unless you slug the bore. Hatcher published in 1937 so my figures may not be accurate either.
