    Hi Guys, looking at model 39 that might be steel, will request magnet test but in mean time, and you determine steel frame guns by S/N? This gun is 61,XXX, in the box. What else can I check? Thanks Mike

    Is the model 52 (no dash) the same frame as the model 39-2. I hate the feel of the aluminum alloy 39-2 and wondered if I could swap the model 52 and remove screw to make it Double/single and have the heavier fell I am looking for.

    Well Gary, took most of the day but made one. Lot of unseen angles to deal with, but work and looks like original. thanks for the help.

    I will look at it closer tomorrow but will more than likely mill one myself. Got it out ( the back 2/3 anyway) and it was dry varnish gluing it place it was not going to move to get the cylinder out, not patient enough for a 30 day soak. May buy one of the Uberti parts and fit it to my gun ...

    Well Gary, I did a little tapping and it broke in 3 pieces, would have happen anyway. I can machine another one unless someone out there has one to sell. Like they say, it happens! Is there a good source for old parts for S&W?

    Thanks Gary, took whole gun apart to clean but couldn't get that retaining tab to move. took the latch apart so I did see it was slotted unto the top strap. Even tried pushing the cylinder up against the tab and striking the other side with plastic "Little" hammer but no good. will try some...

    Morning Guys, need some help, just got a very nice 3rd model 44 Russian dated 1874, in the 48,xxx s/n range. As always, I disassemble all my guns to inspect and clean but can't get the little "tab" under the top strap that keep the cylinder from backing out to come out of the slot it's in ...
