    Request assistance with ID

Many thanks to all who posted assistance here. What a great group! This was one of the guns I inherited from my Dad when he died in 2000. I joined a club and started shooting again (first time since college) about 3 years ago, and have been "dusting off" the inventory and refreshing my memory...

    Request assistance with ID

OK, located the information on page 191 of Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson (5th ed). Another question - what determines the difference between a "Registered Magnum" and a "357 Magnum Pre-27"? Is it the presence of the registration certificate? Or does Pre-27 start with guns during 1950...

Yes, you are correct. Checked under the yoke and there is nothing stamped.

Working on identifying a gun that I inherited. Smith and Wesson, I believe a model 27. I think it is a 4 screw (3 in side plate and one in front of trigger guard). The s/n is S 123469. I do not have the box, but do have an original invoice with serial number - but only description is "357...

    Best Powder For 38 spl, 357, 44 mag, 9mm, 45acp, and 45 Colt?

Since Unique has been relatively scarce, and BE-86 is listed right next to it on the burn-rate chart, and I was able to score a good deal on some BE-86, and still have some Unique in my stash, I decided to do some load "development" to emulate the Skeeter load using BE-86 (using Starline 44...

Looking for ball-park ship date of my 27-2

6" barrel, blued. Serial number is N138xx. Also, would like to know at what s/n S&W started installing the locks - I assume this gun pre-dates that. As promised, here are pics. Model 27-2 6" blued, no box. Probably 95% with slight wear on muzzle bluing and some light dings on stocks. While...

    Thoughts about Model 1955

I have a S&W Model 1955 45 ACP s/n S-160xxx. After reading several posts about cylinder size, I picked up a set of plug gauges. The cylinder is gauging at .45400, maybe a tad more, but less than .45600. I just loaded some 45 Auto Rim with Montana Bullet Co .452 255 grain cast SWC. Have not...

    Model 952 sight adjustment

I picked up a minty 952 in original Performance Center case, but unfortunately without the user manual. Would like to confirm that rear sight adjustment matches the model 41 and 945: Elevation - CCW = "Up" (raising the impact point) Windage - CW = "Right" (moves impact point to the right) Thanks!
