Either I am lazy or just old school and OLD LOL But to me this is a pistol just like a model 19 is a pistol. No desire to argue my point just what I refer to them as and have for 60 years.
So I have a .38 Safety Hammerless from 1890 that has a Star on it and a refinish date stamped on the frame of March 1914 which falls in line with your dating. If the author's gun was indeed refinished, we have no way of knowing when it was done? I was simply pointing out that there is a good...
Photos would be really helpful. If that is indeed a S&W J1333 That would be a J Frame serial and date to 1969. As for the other one I am not familiar. Also, as for value that would be contingent on the model and condition.
Back in the day if it went back to the S&W Factory they would put a star on it after the serial number. So you can almost bet it wasn't refinished at the factory.
So here is one re-plated at the factory. There is a star after the serial number and a date stamped under the left grip panel of 3-14 so it was refinished in march of 1914
Generally when it was a factory refinsh there will be a star stamped after the serial number and a date stamped on the frame under the left grip panel.
Here is a better photo. I first had to grovel and beg because typically S&W won't take in anything older than 1980 for parts availability issues. I told them I had had the gun apart and it is sound. With some misgivings they took it in. After 7 weeks and 233.00 which included shipping I received...
So I purchased a HD .38/44 circa 1949 a couple years ago, I paid 500.00 for it. It is mechanically fine with worn finish. It doesn't look like this any more as I sent it off to S&W for a refinish.
I am in it for about 900.00 with gun purchase, box and refinish.
Hello! Just a collector here not an appraiser. I believe you have and has been briefly mention is a .44 Hand Ejector 1st Model (New Century, Triple-Lock, .44 Model of 1908) They came in several calibers yours is .44 S&W Special. I believe it is a little bit earlier that fore-mentioned. perhaps...
Hello friends,
I am in hopes I posted this question in the correct forum. I picked up a K-38 Yesterday circa 1950 and the fella I bought it from threw this holster in saying it "Belonged with the K-38". My holster knowledge is limited. I know there was a Holster Maker in Texas with the last name...
