On a budget, and have put my 640 dreams on hold so I can scratch another itch.Considering a model 10 or model 15.

What generations would be the choice considering age, ammo, planned heavy range use and the ability to pimp out if I dabbled in some IDPA matches.

I think the M15 would be a very good choice. It's got
good sights and with the 4" barrel it will a good gun to

I would go for a 64 and then have it cut for moons and converded to a 38 super .

If you are on a budget there are a couple of mod 10-10's (with heavy barrels) on gunbroker for 179.99. Guys name is Competitive and is located in georgia.

I have a model 10-10. It is a very solid gun, trigger is brilliant in both double and single action. Highly recommended. I looked at the pictures of the guns there on gunbroker and they look pretty beat up, some have rust spots and all of them have scratches. I'd save up a little more and get one that is in better shape. New ones are only 500 bucks or something.

True they look beat up but if the internals are good then that is a cheap price to get into IDPA. If the gun works and shoot's well and is going to be knock around gun, and is not a collector piece then it's looks are not terribly concerning. True he might find a nicer Model 10-10 or even a nice Model 15, I just happened to come across those two auctions and mentioned them. I do know that J&G sales have some model 10's and 64's for similar prices. Don't know about condition though.

The same seller has a pair of similarly ugly Model 15s for sale in the low $200 range. I coincidentally just went through the same debate as the OP and bought one of the pretty nickel 15-3s they were selling 2 weeks ago. I considered a HB Model 10, but I like the adjustable rear sight much, much better for general range use.

Just remember, good things come to those who wait. You may be better off waiting for a good deal on a better gun, or saving longer and paying a little more for exactly what you want. I'm always happier in the long run when I buy what I really want, instead of buying something cheaper, then winding up buying what I really want later...

I have shot a 581, 19, and 64 in IDPA.

I found that I picked up adjustable sights much quicker, especially on follow-ups.

While I generally prefer fixed sight revo's, especially for defense use, I would lean toward an adjustable sighted model for IDPA work.
