I would love to shoot Icore, but no matches around here. The PPC fail in alot of areas because LE depts didin't have the money to send a team to shoot. I think it should be opened up for civilians and LE's to shoot together and have a bigger field and cheaper to shoot match. Plus add moon clips to the 38's would save on brass instead of giving it to the brass Gods. LOL
Back to the Question - I don't see it happening.

Default PPC Matches

Bullseye
Did you check icore.org? they have a list of clubs in the US and overseas
there might be one near you. I shot PPC for 14 years with a Dept funded two man team but that was over when I retired. So I found icore. all the shooters that I have met are all a great bunch of guys to shoot with.

Lobosolo,

I have checked all the sources I have and find no PPC matches near you, that doesn't mean they don't exist though. The closest I know for you is 225 (or so) miles south at the Whittington Center in July. That is where the Colorado State Match will be held in conjunction with the New Mexico State Match.

Do they allow non LEOS to shoot PPC Now-a-days?

Can't speak for the Denver area, but PPC is almost nonexistent here in the Mid-Atlantic.
IMHO, the mindset of many within the current generation of LEO's (the gun is only a tool to be qualified on twice a year) as well as the cost restraints that limit both ammo and time availability have made it's future questionable.
PPC rules, which exclude civilian shooters (though some local events have been dropping this rule lately), also have eliminated a major source of participants.
PPC could really be a great stepping stone from Bullseye to the action sports. It's too bad.
Just my 2 cents..........

There is no law that says you cant just get a bunch of shooters together and have your own PPC matches. I doubt you can get them approved because of the "COP" rule. But why not start something and just shoot fun matches.

Heck, I might just take a trip down there if you can get a match going. Or if there is the interest, I'll put on one here.

I'm retired LE and can compete, but I'd like to seem more people get involved in PPC matches.

Maybe we can petition the NRA to reconize a seperate PPC course for civilians.

Well said!
I have seen this question about civilians many times, and since I'm a foreigner I always wondered WHY! Why don't they just make some civilian matches? I sure some law enforcement guys would like to take part as well.

If you could get the NRA to open it up that would of course be great, if not. Why not join up with the rest of the world in WA1500? We all play together there and we don't care what people do for a living.

In the 80's our local police dept. had monthly PPC match's, and any "NRA" member was allowed to shoot. Unfortunately, the couple officers who put them on got tired of it,and no other officers were willing to do it. There were the "Police" match's on Wed. afternoons, for the state where all ranges in the state had match's and the scores were sent in for overall match winners. A few of us joined the IL Police Assoc as axillary B members, and were allowed to participate, actually had a division for the axillary members. Unfortunately the local dept lost it's range, and we would have to travel 80 miles to compete.

Now most of the police depts in our area participate in IPSC type match's rather than PPC.

Don't know which Mountain State you are in, but they have ICORE matches in Spearfish SD. About one a month.

All this talk of "civilians" in PPC match wants me to mention that generally speaking, LEOs are civilians (except MPs of course).

Sorry guys, that bugs me even more than the "clip vs magazine" thing.

Going back to bed......

You are absolutely right. Please forgive one that doesn't have English as his native tongue.

Did you get out of bed just for that

And it bugs me when people interperate the english language to fit their own agenda. Try pulling out a good old dictionary if you have one, you'll find that the definition of "civilian" reads thusly:

Head to Michigan if you want to shoot PPC. The Michigan Police Combat Pistol Assoc. does an excellent job. They hold about a dozen 1500 matches in the summer and almost as many indoor matches in the winter, all open to both LEO and civilians. I heard from an old friend that they had over 300 shooters at one indoor match in January.

I miss it, I wish more states had programs like theirs.

If this is the Bill Green Jr I think it is, he speaks the truth. The January match in Michigan should be the Oakland County SO match, always a lot of shooters and plenty of guns awarded. The MPCPA has it figured out in regards to non-LEO shooters and it is the non-LEO shooters keeping the MPCPA running strong as far as active members go. The summer 1500 matches, full 50 yard matches, only have a small non-LEO cadre but the winter league is a whole nother animal and that 50 foot course on the B27R is a challenge. The 10 ring on the B27R isn't much bigger than the x-ring of a regular B27.

How you been Bill? Haven't seen you since the last match we shot at the Taylor range. Life good down South?

Mike

Life is great, I found a local club that shoots a PPC match once a month, they shoot the old FBI course, so it is only 25 yds, but it is fun. I am also trying my hand at Action Pistol, it seems okay, but not PPC. Send me a PM with your email address.
