any advice on 22 ammo for model 41 pistols please, particularly compare cci standard vs green tag and is it worth double the price

CCI Stingers are too much for the 41. Remember the 41 is a match grade pistol and only requires standard velocity ammo. You can put in a recoil buffer and stronger spring but the gun shoots very well with match grade ammo. You need to go buy a variety of ammo for it and see which it prefers.
The gun does like to be kept clean and can be a finicky beast but with time and patience you'll have a very nice accurate pistol.

Unless you are a very, very good bullseye shooter you will not notice the difference.

The difference between CCI Standard Velocity and the Green Tag will never be noticed in a handgun unless you are capable of an Olympic Gold Medal. In a rifle, yes it is possible to see the very small difference (if you are good enough).

One of the major manufacturers has a reputation for making very dirty .22 LR. Or had such a rep; maybe they cleaned up their act.

Can't remember which and don't want to start an internet legend...

I've got more than a few 22 target pistols , shoot Bullseye etc . I've never seen the Green Tag outgroup the Std Velocity well enough to justify the cost . As a matter of fact I've got several that the SV will outshoot the Green Tag . If you're shooting a 41 stick with the SV . If you want to spend more try the CCI Pistol Match . I've got a HS 107 that'll put 10 of 'em under a quater @ 50yds . All that said I buy SV by the case & shoot it out of 10 different pistols with acceptible results . If you ain't shooting High Master scores pricey ammo don't help . You're much better off with less costly fodder & practising more . Many newbies get all caught up in ammo & load testing . Find something that groups & functions 100% in your gun & stick with it . The more you train & perfect your trigger control & hold the better you'll become . BTW they're all shooting games not ammo games . Hope this helps .

As far as what to avoid, I won't use Remington .22 Target. Failures to fire approach 10% with this stuff and seem to be getting worse.

I like Federal and Winchester for the price. Anything but Remington.

FWIW, my model 41 shoots best with CCI Standard Velocity ammo. At bullseye distances, I have found nothing that shoots better. Your model 41 may like something different. I am glad mine likes the less expensive stuff!

Although I don't own a model 41, over the years, I've found that .22s can be fussy about what ammo they like, and don't like.

What I always did when I got a different .22, was to go down to the local gun shop(when we had a good one that stocked a lot of stuff) and buy a box of everything they had, try them all, and when I found what the gun liked best, bought all of that lot number I could find! Yes, .22 ammo varies quite a bit from lot to lot, which really sucks!

Ammo make a BIG difference! I've shot 50 yard groups, with the same gun that varied from 1/2" to 3", just by changing ammo!

I use mostly CCI in my K 22's with pretty good results but I shoot most any of the major brands I can find on sale. I do like Federal and Winchester. Both the guns and the ammo are more reliable than my shooting skills so I'm not too picky.

I do know that Remington is very dirty and requires more frequent extractor and cylinder cleaning.

Just bought a new 41 last week an took it to the range with Remington "Golden Bullet" value pack I just bought and Remington Target that was over 30 yrs old. The " Golden Bullet" was no value for me, however my 30 yr old Remingtons were just fine.

Only problem I had was my gun was grouping 1-3/4" left of center and no more adjustment, waiting on shipping label so I can send it back and hope it comes back like it should have left the factory to start with, without the wait.

Here's another vote for CCI Standard Velocity in the Model 41. I doubt you would see much advantage using Green Tag.

CCI Blazer according to MidwayUSA catalog is standard velocity ammo. At ~$17.00 a brick it is GREAT STUFF as Tony the Tiger would say!

I'm on my fourth case and both of my M41s are running fine, along with 2 Ruger Mk 2s, Walther P22, Ruger 10-22, and a Mossberg 44US. I can't argue with cheap when Eley Match @$14 / 50 rounds doesn't do better.

I shot NRA Bullseye, both indoor 50' and outdoor 25/50yd for nearly 10 years before taking a break and trying something different. My rimfire pistol was a 5" M-41 (w/ Ultradot). The last 3 years I used a Clark barrel installed at Clark's kiosk at Perry.

CCI/SV was my ammunition of choice. None of the expensive ammunition shot so much better as to justify the added expense. Test for yourself and see what your gun likes.

In the Midway Catalog, CCI-SV, Green Tag, Pistol Match & Blazer all are listed with velocities of 1,070 fps with a 40 gr. bullet.
My 41 prefers SV.
Go figure?
Try 'em all and see which works best in your pistol.
