I just picked up a 6" 686-4 with a B-Square weaver mount. I am thinking about buying a scope or some other optic for it but don't know anything about what's out there. What would recommend ?

Put a Bushnell Fastfire on my 686+ 6", with an Allchin mount no drilling, works great for "old" eyes...
Yes, I have one on an 8" 686. Works great.
Added: You did not say your intended use for the pistol, but I hope you are aware that scopes are intended for hunting, not for any of the action pistol games. Also, putting optics on a handgun for the action pistol games throws you into OPEN, against the all-out race guns.
Just to get a sight picture for plinking, the dot systems work OK for the least money, while the holographic sights are the best.

I had a scope mounted on my Colt Anaconda, and later switched it out for an Ultra-Dot, red dot. I went with the match dot model. I now have red-dots on several handguns, and would never consider going back to a scope. For me, the scopes are too big and bulky, and target acquisition is much faster with the red dot.

Red dots are my choice for an optical aid. Went through a few of them before discovering the MatchDot II. Outdoor Channel had a show where they walked the pistol line at Camp Perry. MatchDots predominated.
Added one to my BuckMark and added 100 points to my score.
So, set up my 625 with one, too. 18 shots to zero it.
First match was last weekend, and won it, my first in centerfire:

I also recommend the Match Dot II or UltraDot 30. Get a 30mm version!!! Much larger field of view than a 1".
They come very highly recommended on the Handgun Hunting Forum. They stay together very well. They are also very popular for action pictol matches.
I have both the UltraDot 25 (1") and UltraDot 30 on my 480 Ruger Super RedHawk hunting revolvers. The 1" one came on one of them when I bought it, and so far I have not changed it out. If you look through both a 1" and 30mm you will get a 30mm with no further thought of ever owning a 1".
I also have the new UltraDot 6 on my Tactical 22 carbine that I shoot in Rimfire 2-Gun Matches. It was designed as an AR15 optical sight. I really like it also. Heather will fix you up.

Can you tell us more about the Allchin mount?
My 686 is begging for help for my eyes
Can you provide the part or model number for the mount?
I'd rather not have my revolver tapped. (At least not right now.)
If there is a down side to using this mount, please comment on it.

The Allchin mount is really low.
I installed one with a J-point on a 686-5.
They accomodate RTS, Doctor, Burris and some other sights.
I am moving this sight to another gun and will be offering this for sale in the accessories area when I get around to it.

Are you looking for magnification or a red dot? I have a leupold deltapoint, kind of spendy but very nice. I got it through their mil discount program for I think $270 with every mount, I use the one that takes the place of the rear sight. I did however blow a chunk of the plastic off on the mount (it's cosmetic). The front rear sight screw it not utilized and is right over the cylinder gap which eventually eroded the piece from hot gases coming through.
