I thought silhouettes had to be shot with only iron sights.

If you look at the score board there are 2 classes..Iron & scope.
He obviously won the scope. If he is like me (I am 57) I can't even see a target at 50 yards w/o optics.

won my irons class, too, but you'd be surprised what you can see
I'm nearly 65 and wear trifocals. Brian Enos taught me to see the front sight clearly, so the target's a blur and still gets hit.
amazing concept, it is
btw: that red dot isn't magnified

Cheating to win
Merit Optical eyepiece (fits on glasses with a suction cup) makes it possible to shoot iron sights with glasses. At a silouette match 2 years ago, every competitor shooting iron sights was using one.
Makes a huge difference when shooting Bullseye matches with iron sights.

thanks
Just got a Merit last week, and really couldn't see that much improvement.
I wear trifocals and the middle of the lens is "monitor distance" clear.
The front sight is crystal clear through my middle lens.
With the Merit no matter how I adjusted it, the target didn't become any more clear and the sight was the same as without the Merit.
One whole morning was devoted to testing it at 50yds with no significant difference in my sight picture.
Returning it to MidwayUSA for a credit.
really hoped it would make a big difference

I shoot silhouettes with Irons and Merrit optical thingy with my Model 25-7 out to 100 yards. I also use a Ruger SRH with a 6x scope. I have won both classes through out the years.
Just getting ready for this year, went out Sunday and did some 50 yard practice. The model 25 has the sweetest trigger. I need more practice with that one. With the 44 I was getting 6" group off hand with 10 shots.
When I first bought the model 25 in 1990, I mounted a scope on it and hunted deer with hot loads. Then I bought the 44 mag and put the 25 back how it belongs including shooting standard 45 colt loads. Its just as tight as the day I bought it.
The match starts in 3 weeks. I am all fired up for it. I will be practicing more with the 25 and iron sights. I'm 53, the merrit makes a world of difference. I can see front sight, rear sight and target all clear. I was a bullseye shooter until a couple years ago using the merrit. Now most use some kind of optics and a dead battery is an allowable alibi. I went back last year and shot one bullseye match outdoors. I was the only one on the line with iron sights.

what's the load you've worked up to run those 50 yard shots?

I saw those pink bullets for the first time in May in person. A guy I know from Tennessee said those pink bullets (Falcon Bullet Company?) work good...even if they look like lipstick!
Thanks

You're welcome.
My gunsmith created a new front sight so I can get the full sight radius with the dual purpose rail.
Shoot the same gun in both irons and optics.
trigger's 2lbs 4oz
