Friendly local match with 2 S&W's
I was invited to a friendly match at a local club and brought 2 S&W guns. It was advertised as a BUG shoot, so bring out the ones that are carried a lot and shot a little. I brought my 2013 Shield 40 and my 1979 Model 60. Very well run, very safe and a great Sunday morning.
First string, 25 rounds at a B-27 silhouette target. All draw and shoot, varying distances from 3 yds to 25 yds. Some strong hand only, some weak hand only, some shoot standing, drop to one knee and shoot 2 more.
Second string, 25 rounds at two targets. All draw and shoot, generally 2 on each target. Over varying distances but reloads on 2 of the positions.
Max score would be 500-50X.
I shot the Shield first. I had 24 10's with 16 X's. 7 shots outside the 7 ring and 2 from 25 yards not even on the paper. I think my score was 402/500 - 16X's.
I shot the Model 60 second. I had 20 10's with 16 X's. 2 shots outside the 7 ring, but all on paper. I think my score was 435/500 - 16X's
Three to ten yards was right on with the Shield, reloads obviously easier, but that thing is tough at 15 and 25 yards. Similar for the J Frame, but the reloads were tough on the clock and I rushed my shots after the reloads. I think the J Frame has better accuracy at 15 and 25 yards.
Before today, I had put maybe 500 rounds through the Shield and today was the first time I ever shot the J Frame, and I haven't shot a revolver in over 25 years.
I was happy with my shooting, although there is always room for improvement. I'm very happy with the Shield under 10 yards, but I had more hits with the Model 60 over all distances.
Thanks for letting me share a great Sunday morning shoot, life is good.
