CMP Revolver Match at Camp Perry
Just returned from the pistol competitions at Camp Perry, Ohio. While all of my scores were a bit below my practice scores, I was able to get into the medal count in the new CMP Distinguished Revolver Match.
The revolver is a 14-3 K-38 with a scarce factory-lettered SA only set-up. Good gun. The rounds were hand-loaded wadcutters.

Nice shooting. Nice gun too. I've always wanted to attend a match at Camp Perry.

If you have nice weather Camp Perry Nationals are a fun event.
I drove there for several years starting in 1967 from NYC with other NYPD shooters. One of the NYPD guys used a Model of 1950 45acp in center fire and the 45 match.
At that time both Remington and Winchester had cheap factory 45acp 185gr plated SWC
Always returned home with a lot of white box .45acp match ammo and 1000s of once fired brass.
Before 1968 there AMTU 1911 pistols in 45acp and .38spc for purchase there.

How far was the target in post 1? 50 yards? Were you using Bullseye or 231?

The NRA BC-6 and BC-6C(center repair) 50 yard slow fire bullseye pistol targets have the 8,9 and 10 ring in black so in post #1 the target appears to be a 25 yard target.

I was using bullseye powder.
The CMP DR Match consist of two 50 yard slow-fire targets followed by one timed and one rapid at the 25 yard line. We staple the next center over the last target so the one shown is the RF target.
Scores were:
SF#1. 86-0X
SF#2 86-2X
TF 90-0X
RF 87-0x

Great shooting under match pressure. Shooting at Camp Pery would leave me in awe. Must of been quite an experience.

One more question because you were there. Does anyone shoot powder coated bullets and score good at 50 yards with pistol? I have been hearing on different forums powder coat does just as good but it doesn't for me and I have tried hard. One point gets the win. What wad cutter bullet were you using?

Some form of K-38 seems to dominate, with various S&W and Colt 357s out there as well.
The SA technique also dominates, and I've tried both SA and DA for the timed events.
My method is to have the pistol cocked and aimed in firmly while holding an extended thumb up high to be ready to cock the next shot (a target hammer is beneficial here). As the target turns the first shot should break, allowing almost a full 10 seconds to individually thumb-cock and fire four more precision shots.

Glock essentially asked to add a Glock-match at the end (Sunday) as a side match. Glock organizes it and sponsors it with generous awards. To compete, one must join the Glock assn club thing and, of course, use a Glock.

For anyone interested in "old school" Bullseye shooting, especially for revolver, check out this thread I started some time ago.
It features a link to an old instructional film by Bill MacMillan (Olympic Gold Medalist and long-time Camp Perry competitor) demonstrating, amongst other things, his rapid/timed revolver dry fire technique.
How to REALLY shoot a Pistol! (Film)

The results are in and I officially came in 17th for a solid Bronze Medal. There were 19 medals awarded. SFC Markowski of the AMU was first Gold with a 380, several points ahead of second place.
As of now there is only ONE CMP Distinguished Revolver Badge: Dave Lange of NJ. His Silver medal in this match put him over the 30 points needed for the shield. He used a 686 with a 6" barrel.
