I saw a 29-3 6" with the silhouette front sight. I have seen these on 10" M29's but never on a 6" before. Are these common? This gun also had a non-fluted cylinder. An interesting piece.
Are these collectible? What would an unfired copy in box with tools and papers go for?
Pictures if you got them!

I have never seen one on a 6" 29 but have seen them on 586's and 686's and not many at that.

This would be the original version of the Classic Hunter from about 1988. I think 5000 of them were made.

They came out in 1987.
I have several articles right here on their release. They came with Hogues on them.

Hey 45wheelgun
I have seen them up here, north of you, sell for $700. There was one on a table at the last OGCA for $800.

I remember that revolver on the cover of an early Petersens Handguns in '87 or '88 and Lo and behold I found one at McBrides in Austin in February. No box but with the the Hogues that came on it.
I am ashamed to say I have not fired it yet...

I've shot mine a little.
In the early 1990's, I toyed with the idea of using it for a PPC competition revolver, which was one of the intended uses for S&W's 4 position front sight. I figured that the bigger hole the .44 bullet cut might pick me up an extra point or two per stage, as the hole only has to touch the higher scoring ring to count the higher value.
I shot badly enough (still do!) that the added expense of making and/or buying the bigger .44 caliber bullets didn't justify the results for me.
I bought mine new, July, 1988, for $406.94 out-the-door.
