Default S & W book

Hi- first post on this forum; I've been posting over on the Hand Ejector forum. I was given a copy of "Smith & Wesson Handguns" by Roy C. McHenry and Walter F. Roper, copyright 1945 by Standard Publications of Huntington, WV. It appears to be a first edition (don't know if there was more than one). Does anyone have any infomation about the authors or this book, and if it may have any value to a Smith collector? Thanks.

I think the book was an attempt to fill a gap at the time . Few publications were avaiable that had anything to do with S&Ws. However, the book is full of misinformation, so don't make any bets on what you read therein as being correct. McHenry was a local attorney in Springfield and an alcholic, I'm told. Roper was a former S&W employee, that had been fired for various indesretions.etc. I beleive both were involved with the Springfield Revolver Club. Copies of the book seldom bring more than a few dollars from serious students of S&W. Ed #15
