Default New Knives $10 versus $40.00 Up - differences

I've been looking at the S&W folding knives that range from around $10 to around $60 or more. I figure the low end knives are worth the $10.00, but what about the others - what makes them that much better? And what about the assisted feature? (You know, you can't really check a knife out when it's sealed in plastic.)
Thanks,
Roger

Price variations are usually the result of rarity or low production, assuming the knives you are looking at are S&W authorized issues, produced by S&W or their authorized licensees. There are 100s of S&W folders, with numerous different features, even in the same models. many knives with S&W name on them are not S&W authorized knives, but over runs, etc., by manufacturers hoping to get S&W approval to make them for S&W. Which knives are you looking at? Ed.

Ed, some are on ebay, so I cannot post them here. Others were in a local chain sporting goods store. I am planning to find one I like on the S&W site or at one of the legit dealers.
Thanks,
Roger

shootist anything like that off ebay I expect a counterfeits I am not saying even 90% of them would be counterfeits just I plan for it to be so I wouldn't be disappointed.

Also if your in the market for a knife and your not locked on to the Smith and Wesson brand. I have had one of these for a few years now and love it. Perfect size for a everyday pocket knife
