Default Early 1970 catalogs

G’day
I have a few questions on S&W 1970s catalogs.
1. Was a catalog issued in 1970, because 1969 and 71 were model circulars I’m guessing if there was it’s a model circular also.
2. The catalog for 1971, I always thought to be the one with the model 29 on the cover however, in the 2000 S&W catalog it’s pictured and identified as 1972 which is it 1971 or 1972 or even both?
3. When the year for question 2 is answered 1971 or 1972 was a catalog issued for the year it is not?
4. Was a catalog issued for 1974, I have the leather goods catalog not seen one for guns?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Cheers.

At least one. I have two catalogs that could be 1970.
A red and white one with 'effective 10-1-69' and a 46 page one, "NO.970", with 11/70 on it.
I think it's very likely that there are more than one 1970 catalog and a circular.

Never noticed the legend on page 2 before you mentioned it.
It does say 1972 but it certainly looks like the "NO.970-11/70" to me. Maybe there is more than one year they made one like that.

I have a blue and white catalog with 7-1-71 on it.

I have a Sporting Goods one that lists a couple shotguns but more ammo, etc.

Thanks snw19_357 for you assistance in clearing this up.

I actually have these four catalogs. I have not see much with regards to collecting catalogs, bits in the books “S&W 1857-1945” & “Standard Catalog of S&W” I also believe there is information in Parsons book “S&W revolvers” but I have not been able to get a copy. A few on e-bay either highly priced or the seller will not post outside US. Because of this I have second guessed things and one is I have always taken the date as the year of the catalog. Therefore the 10-1-1969 AMC I have listed as a 1969 circular.

With regards to the Model 29 catalog I didn’t take too much notice to the numbers “11/70” as on other catalogs looking at this can give incorrect indications of year, somtimes being printers referances. If this is the year then it would fill the void. Thanks.

When I typed the post I forgot I had the 1971 circular when asking the 3rd question. My mistake thanks.

With the one you labelled 1974 I have this listed as 1975 probably because on the Cornell reprint they printed 1975 in the top left corner. Thanks for clearing that one up as well. I have noticed that a lot of dates on the Cornell reprints are incorrect. I have to add here I don’t have any reprints, well I hope that I don’t.

I have quite a few catalogs and would like to think all since 1965.
However I now have a hole in 1975 and it poses the question was there a 1975 catalog?

Cheers.

Well, it has 01-0274-20 on the back…

I don’t have a 1975 AMC but I do have a Sporting Goods with 1975 in the upper left and 01-0475-20A on the back. Looking at your statement above I think this is the one you have.

I have a fair amount but there are still a lot of holes I’d like to fill!

I really enjoy the other viewpoint looking at the AMC’s gives you. Then since I have four different 1984’s and three different 1986’s, I still like looking at all I come across because you never know.

Somehow I forgot about this one.

Handguns - 01-1174-12 (so that's probably 1975's)

snw19_357 I have this one (Handguns - 01-1174-12) as well and dated it 1976.
With regards to the "1975 SG" I don’t have one of these. I have never seen the back to compare with the other and didn’t know they were different. I thought these were Cornell repro's incorrectly dated. Cornells reprinted quite a few S&W catalogs and I have kept notes so to help ensure I don’t purchase reproductions. Interestingly I have not seen one of these "1975 SG" with a dealer’s stamp on them for sale. As I said on an earlier post my knowledge is mostly learnt or presumed so I could easily have it wrong. Thanks for clearing it up.
Cheers
