a gun & a knife..
I just picked up the very early 3" Chief Special SN 50865 from 1954 or possibly very early 1955.
About the knife..the seller claims these were sold with this S&W knife as a set. I find no literature to back it up. Does anyone have any info if this is true? And what of the knife? era? Of any worth other than cutting ropes etc..? I'm a gun guy.. knives are out of my comfort zone so please be kind.
Thx
Mike

Hi Mike:
The knife is a Blackie Collins folder, They were sold in the 70's. As NIB they will bring $150 or a little better.

If you look inside the knife with it open, it is serial numbered.
I do believe that this was one of the few models made at the S&W factory.
However, I do not know how many of these were manufactured.
I have one, and really like it- just wish I could find one in used condition to carry.
Quote:
"Once was a deputy called Fife,
Who carried a gun and a knife.
The gun was all dusty
The knife was all rusty
'cause he never caught a crook in his life."

I looked for a s/n and couldn't find one. I only found made in USA on the blade itself where it meets the handle.

Andy Griffith, I just saw that episode of your show and it wasn't Opie. As you pointed out to Barney, Opie didn't know how to write yet.
Mike, now you need a vintage holster for that 3" Chief- preferably a black basketweave to match the knife sheath.

Nice revolver and knife. The knife is indeed a couple decades newer than the revolver. The model 6060 Folding Hunter is from the 1970s and usually brings from $50 for lightly used, to $120 plus for NIB on a popular auction site. There were 35,000 Folding Hunters produced, they were not serial numbered. S&W manufactured their fixed bladed knives of the era in their factory, but they did not have the capability to produce this knife so it was contracted to Alcas or Bowen Knife.

I sold it a SW Collectors meeting in NE Ohio for $70. It was part of a gun deal so I looked at it as a $0 investment for me. .. thanks for the info. guys.
