Does anyone know who actually makes the S&W knives?

My newly purchased M&P spring assisted knife is made in Taiwan. The package says that it is made under license of Taylor Brands.

As said above, it depends on what age knife you are talking about, however for the last dozen years, or so, the major supplier of S&W knives is Taylor Cutlery, a USA distributor/manufacturer that imports most of their product from overseas, mainly China & Taiwan. Be aware, however, that if you are a serious S&W knife collector, many knives seen on the secondary discount markets with S&W logos, may not be S&W authorized knives. Taylor often submitted dozens of knives in various styles to S&W and the factory would pick a few for the factory catalog. The other designs would be returned to Taylor, who then sold them on the surplus knife market. Such knives are not considered true S&W authorized knives, however may be good knives for everyday use as knives, but not as collectables. Ed.

I think Taylor Brands is the "official" supplier. While their knives are not exactly premium grade, they are a good value and are durable.

They stand by their warranty too. I picked up a S&W Borderguard 2 from Amazon and the lock failed a year later. Typically Taylor requests you to ship it to them and pay something like $6 for processing. They waived that free and I spent a few bucks to ship it to TN. A week later a new knife was sitting in my mailbox.

Good folks to deal with
