Thank-you for posting the 1970s brochure again. I own may favorite two of the 1970s knives, a Skinner and an Outdoorsman. I bought the Skinner from SMKW, pre-owned of course. I bought the Outdoorsman out of the classified ads here lightly used. One of these years I'll add a Fisherman. Since I want it to use I'm waiting for one that is not like new. However, the boxes are cool. They go with my revolvers.

If you don't mind, I'd like a full education on these S&W knives. Are they well thought of from the knife community? Can't say I've ever seen them for sale on the used market.

Thanks
Cory

The Blackie Collins designed knives in the 1974 brochure were the last knives S&W made. Since they were discontinued Taylor Cutlery has been contracting other manufacturers to produce knives branded S&W. Taylor Cutlery imported most of their S&W knives from the southwest Pacific area.

Consequently I'm only going to comment on the 1970s S&W made knives. S&W gun collectors pay more for the 1970s knives then they are worth as utility knives. The blade steel is not spectacular 440A stainless. You can find better value else where. That admitted, they are great additions to a 1970s gun collection. They came in blue two piece boxes that were different shaped versions of the revolver boxes. The three big ones, the Bowie, Outdoorsman and Survival Knives had forged blades. Very few other knife manufacturers forge blades. The blades are all polished bright and a bead of solder was run around the tang-hand guard juncture. They are stamped with serial numbers. While they were on the market they were substantially more expensive than similar size Buck knives. I can not speak for the "knife community." I can only write that I like a few of the models enough to have bought two and have an eye out for one more.
