Smith and Wesson Zippo Lighter
A question for the Zippo collectors.
The wife dragged me into an antique/junk store today, and while I was waiting for her to peruse every single item in every single booth, I saw a Smith and Wesson logo'd Zippo lighter like the one pictured. It was in a locked case so I couldn't inspect it, but it appeared to be unused in the original box. I don't collect Zippos, and have no use for a lighter, but I do like S&W stuff. It was priced at $28.00. Is that a good price?

A new plain chrome one is $22 and the prices go way up from there. I’m not a collector, but it seems reasonable

Thanks. I'll probably go back and buy it. Even if it's overpriced, $28.00 ain't gonna break the bank.

Buy it. A quick perusal of Ebay showed no S&W Zippos for less than that.

I did go back this morning and buy it. It is indeed unused. Like I said, I have absolutely no use for it, but I'm a sucker for anything with the Smith and Wesson logo.
Thanks for everyone's input.

Ooh wee that is nice. Definitely more vintage than the one I have made in 1998. Check for the marks on the bottom of it and then Google Zippo age chart and you can determine the date of manufacture.

Thanks. The date code puts it at 1983.

Yes you can ck age as mentioned. That is definitely a little older. You have to be careful because Zippo’s are like pocket knives and revolvers. Once you buy one you want all the different models to go with it

Zippos
I've owned and still have three Zippos. I value them highly as they were part of my military life from VN to the GWOT. I just used one to light my afternoon cigar.
I would have bought that S&W Zippo in heart beat.

Picked up this set in 2007. Each sold new for $28, the numbered limited edition was $50.

No, but they are polished giving them a "chrome-ish" finish, so they must be optimized for high-speed/low drag applications.
I'd post a pic but my camera will not fit in my pocket...

I've wanted another Zippo for a long time. I should just buy one of the common S&W ones. Use it on the 4th for fireworks.

I still have the plain black Zippo I carried in WW2 & Korea, when Uncle Sam gave us free cigarettes. When I got discharged and found out I had to pay for cigs, I quit smoking, but the Zippo still works great !

Finally took a pic of the Zippo Performance Center lighter(s)
Not the best effort, the chrome really reflects everything, so trying to get a pic without my fingers in the shot was tough....
One is NIB (new in box) the other is ANIP (as New ( but normally) In Pocket)

I put a butane insert into one of my zippo's. I light it once a week for old times sake. I get a blue, two columns of flame display.

Thanks for the pics. Thread reminds me of the Zippo D-Day Commemorative I bought back in 1994. Came in a gold metal tin box. Unfortunately I used it like a moron. Wonder how much they are worth now in unused condition?

I gotta keep it just so that I can look it up on eBay occasionally,,
Or, maybe I should offer it in trade for a S&W 500 Performance Center??

Nice
I'm a non-smoker, but I admire Zippos as an American icon. Having use for a lighter for burning the occasional brush fire, I bought a couple of plasma arc lighters. I saw that they make a plasma arc insert for Zippos.
My late brother in law was a medic in Nam, delivered a baby for a Vietnamese lady who then gifted him a Zippo he carried with pride for years with image of Nam inscribed on it, classy lighter.
Among my late father's belongings I recall that he had a Ford logoed Zippo, but I haven't seen it for years.
I might have to procure a Zippo to convert to plasma arc.

I had a friend whose mom kept a cigarette lighter in the form of a small automatic. She also kept a Raven .25. One day he went to light a smoke and blew out the webbing between his thumb and forefinger on his left hand. There may have been beer involved.

My brother used to get Zippo’s engraved to commemorate the ships he sailed, from the factory. He would order 1-2 dozen and sell or give them to shipmates.
