Default S&W and Colt Gun Boxes

Quote:
I spent an entertaining afternoon on Saturday with some gents in St. Louis with affinities for weapons. Not just handheld guns but an assortment of military memorabilia, most of which I will post to the Lounge.

I saw and handled any number of vintage/antique pistols and revolvers and long arms, 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th century pieces. It was quite an afternoon. When they get their website set up (it's also a business venture) I'll post it in the Lounge.
For this section of the Forum, and I think I'm in the right place, I just want to exhibit the boxes, both S&W and Colt:

I never did ask if he had the guns for those boxes but, in many cases, I believe the answer would be yes.

He has drawer after drawer of handguns. Whether they all go into his box collection is unknown to me. I forgot to ask.

I love gun boxes, especially the old cardboard ones. A box isn't required for me to buy a gun, but even my wife knows that the white dot on the back of the tag at my LGS means "box in back" and will point it out to me it I miss it. Even the plastic ones I like.

These days I've only got one "classic" Smith and Wesson box, and I just got that one a short time ago. A 1951 M&P came with it. The box numbers to the gun.

And no. I don't think I would have bought the gun, without the box. Generally speaking, I don't care for a 6" barrel revolver, especially a 6" M&P, but this one was so nice, and it had the box.

I only have a few old S$W revolvers, but the guns are as new from the 1920's and a good deal you gotta go for it even without the box. My newer models from the 50's to the 80's 99% have the box and or presentation wood case.
