Default Knife handle is it bone?

Sorry this isn't an S&W knife. Hope it's ok to post.

I'm going to clean this knife up and use it. Even thought about replacing the sharpener by grinding/fashioning a replacement from a generic sharpener. I'm wondering if I can melt the glue here with a soldering iron and lift out the cracked piece.

Thanks
