I have a Smith and Wesson Folding Hunter, Model 6060, serial number 46381, which was given to me by a Smith & Wesson employee. It is new, never used with a black basketweave sheath, no box. My initial research shows there were only 35000 Folding Hunter made, and serial numbers were 1 thru 35000. Can anyone confirm serial #46381 date of manufacture for me? Thank you in advance.

As far as I know, the Model 6060 Folding Hunter was not marked with a serial number, at least my 3 are not. The fixed blade knives other than the Fisherman and Fillet models do have serial numbers.

Pilgrim,

This is my second Folding Hunter. I purchased my first one in the 80's new, and it was serialized. I thought the same thing, that all were not numbered, but open your folding blade and hold the knife under a magnifying glass, the open blade to the left, and you should see a number stamped on the brass just inside. You need to use a bright light. I use an older flouresent round bulb magnifying glass. Maybe a knife expert will comment further.

Took a while, found my box but no knife.
Looked some more, Tally Ho!
That serial number is there. Not that easy to see or read!
And mine is also handwritten on the box label.
Mine is 16917.
So if they made 35k of the Model 6060, numbered 1-35,000-
Where did the 46,381 Knife come from?

See, I told you they would be there. My serial number is well over the 35K range. As I stated above, the knife was given to me by a Smith & Wesson employee. I'm wondering if he may have received it from the manufacture or someother factory outet. That's why I did the post. Perhaps someone might know a little more than me. I'm glad you found the location of the Folding Hunter serial numbers. That's what I like about this forum...always something new to learn about.

Well, I'll be, one of mine has a number. I don't know why your knife has that high of serial number. It just might be as random as the placement of the serial number, or if the knife even has a serial number.

Folding Hunter Knife - Seria number

To the best of my knowledge 35000 were made and all were serialized. The high number on mine is definitely a mystery. But I still believe as I said before, it might have been a rarity or possibly one that they manufactured to add to the collection as a rare piece to keep collectors searching for. They, SW have done that before. Who knows for sure. But I am 100% sure the serial number is correct. Thanks for sharing.

Well, I learn something every day. I've had it for years, but never realized my S&W folder had a serial number. Sure enough it is there, in the same location as in Ko41's photo, under 3k..

Great i had 2 and did not realize they had serial #'s and maybe #on the box's to match. 1 had a sheathe and the other did not .
