S&W Model C - Husqvarna Rifle

My dealer gave me a call last week and said he had something I might be interested in. I checked it out and it was a Model C S&W branded Husqvarna rifle chambered in 243 Win. It came with the scope and the blueing is nearly perfect and the wood only has minor surface scratches. All of that for $375. Of course I bought it and will be sighting it in this afternoon.

My question is what are these rifles worth now? I checked in the SCSW 3rd, but that price was published 7 years ago.

Don't know what it's worth but I think you got a great deal, Husqvarna , made some very well made rifles. Let us know how it shoots.

I had it out to the range to sight it in and it shoots great. I am usually a pistol guy, but couldn't pass up this offer. It does take some getting used to a scope when I mainly shoot iron sights only, but enough ammo and time will take care of that.

I have a Husqvarna rifle and it is one of the finest rifles ever. I will post some pictures later.

I have one in 30-06. Hard to tell from your pics, but the earlier actions
with the external extractor are more desirable. The Husqvarna action
was basically a small ring 98 mauser with some shortcuts compared to
the Browning FN large ring mausers but still a high quality action made
of good steel. Your gun wears a fairly cheap scope and the stock has
been cut for the non original pad but at today's prices I think you did
just fine if you like the gun and want to keep it as a shooter.

That is a very Nice S&W Branded Husky you scored there. The price you paid was about right for one Perhap's "Ten years ago". Like all other Guns these too have taken a sharp rise lately, buyer supply and demand has driven the real market prices higher. I happened to locate this A-Model in 30-06 a couple of weeks ago. I wanted an A-model due to the eye appealing high figure wood stock's they used on that model. The actions on these models are a Re-tooled small ring down sized Mauser 98 action and were very difficult and expensive to machine, but are considered one of the strongest and most durable actions to have ever been used, before or since

The Early imported Husky's like your's and mine had the down sized small ring Mauser design "1640 HVA" actions, and these models were made from 1953-1967 time span in models of A, B, C, & D and the later ones that got Imported to S&W after 1967 that Husqvarna produced, were called the "Repeterstudsare 1900" actions which were made from 1967-1970 with A 10% production cost reduction compared with the 1640 system, The new actions showed improvements of an adjustable trigger, without pulling the action from the stock & an elaborate engraved floor plate, with a new designed bolt face that completly surrounded the cartridge, and a safety which disabled the firing pin while operating the bolt as the 1640 actions were showing to cost Far too much to produce, so this factor forced the design changes in favor of the newer designed 1900 action's. The barrels on all of these rifles produced by Husqvarna are Cold Hammer forged to maintain supreme accuracy and close tollerance's & supreme strength. I am now on the hunt for a 1900 style action S&W rifle to set beside my 1640 model.

The one shown, came to me N.I.B. unfired and I had to give $625.00 for it shipped. I didn't view this current market price as out of line compared to the Mass Produced Junk they are putting out today with Bead blasted matte finished bluing and Black Plastic stocks for almost the same price or more than what I paid for this rifle. In view of this new generation trend of rifles made, Have you seen the current Remington rifles they are putting out these days ? They are a far cray from the Old Favorite High quality stand by 700's & 721's of late. There were only so many of these S&W branded Husky's Imported in the U.S. so any of them no matter what grade they are in my eyes are a great rare find, that will not be offered again.

Mine was shipped in 1967 according to a serial number bank I located, and it is hard for me to believe that a rifle 43 Years old could still be unfired but this one was. If you would like yours dated simply P.M. me your serial number. These rifles are of the Highest quality and were competing with Sako's made in Finland back then, and to me are as good or a little better than the Sako's were in that time span, as I have had a couple of those too, One being a Pre Garcia Model and one Post Garcia Model, but the quality and eye appeal of this Husky seems to be a little better to me any way. Thats a very nice model A rifle, the stock does look nicer than the stock on my model C. I have only fired 40 rounds through mine so far, but I am starting to really like it. Nice guns. My first .30-06 was the later "Carl Gustaf" version you mention, also a model A S&W. Beautifully made actions; I hunted with a lefty in Sweden. The Carl Gustaf and the earlier Husqvarna Mausers like yours were slick, beautifully made with superb barrels.

Yours came back as the same years as mine being a 1967 vintage. I have Located a Newer 8000 Carl Gustaf designed action rifle with the adjustable trigger in Winchester .270 which is also an "A" Model and hope the owner decides to swap with me as I have a Revolver he wants. Mod D Husqvarna 30-06

I have just recieved this gun as a gift love the way it shoots I am just wondering the age I can provide serial number and also pictures.The stock goes to the end of the barrel no one around my town has seen anything like it please help.

A buddy has a .270 JC Higgins made by Husqvarna.
