I don't know anything about the i-bolt, but read a good review. Light weight, easy to carry and accurate. I saw that Bud's has a black synthetic one listed for 450. but is out of stock? That seems like a good price for a nail driver. I look forward to your range report olcop.

Default S&W I bolt rifle

It seems that we won't get a range report after all, after driving over 100 miles to meet the guy, he didn't show up and I came back home with no rifle.
Sure did want it though

That is a heck of a deal. Sorry to hear you were stood up. No explanation from the guy at all?

I just bought one new in box for $299 online, but I haven't received it yet. From what I have read they are great rifles. I just plan on throwing a Trijicon 4.5x16 scope (think that's what it is) on it and leaving it at that. I'll let you know how it shoots when I get it. Take care.

Default what about the Icon

Since S&W owns Thompson-Center, what about the Icon? It came out about the same time as the Ibolt, but seemed to get better reviews. Does anybody have and real experience with either? Early magazine reviews never really tell the story.

I have the i-bolt in .30-06, and it is about as good a hunting rifle as it gets. Mine's been back to the factory for light primer strikes---not unusual for a 60-degree bolt lift rifle---but S&W made good on it and it's been fine ever since. Contrary to what I've read, Uncle Mike's standard swivels will not fit the i-bolt; you must use Hush Stalkers. Quite frankly, I could do without the built-in swivel attach points anyway. I like the one-piece Weaver scope mount that bridges the bolt gap, so scope ring alignment is pretty accurate even for those of you who don't lap your scopes.
The rifle is crazy accurate, and the bolt is beefy. Someday I hope Boyds will crank out a walnut stock for it, as I'm no fan of synthetic, but in the meantime, it's fine. I picked up a S&W recoil reducer on Ebay for cheap and installed it in the stock; whether or not it really reduces recoil is debatable.
It's "opening day eve' here in NYS, and I'm cycling some snap caps through mine at this very moment. If I see a buck tomorrow morning, it's history.

It seems to me that the i-bolts have been a flop.

I wonder if the rifles really suck, they were late to the market, or they're being sued by Apple for trademark infringement.

There definitely seems to be more acceptance of the ICON from TC/S&W.

Sorry for the late reply; yes, he called and said that his alarm clock didn't go off and he had accidently turned his cell phone off the night before. I could understand one or the other but both was too long of a stretch for me. As it turned out I found a Springfield 03A3 project gun and a Mossburg .410 for the same money, so I was reasonably happy-----sure did want the S&W though

Rifle discomtinued due to slow sales....balance of inventory being sold at CDNN. Frankly its not an attractive rifle and didn't appeal to many shooters.

Talking

I bought one in the late 80's or early 90's for my sons first rifle, and it was killer accurrate and a Howa action just like the ones with the brighter blue and different bolt shroud used on the Weatherby Vanguard series of rifles. I have nothing bad to say about them as he killed lots of Mule Deer and Antelope in Colorado with that first rifle.

Default Just the facts, ma'am.

This is the most authoritative review I've found on the i-bolt: Hunter's delight: S&W's new hunting rifle is affordable, accurate and dependable | Guns Magazine | Find Articles . By "authoritative," I mean the review was based on measurable and observable fact, and not the usual hyperbole associated with some gun reviews. Hope it helps.

I have an I-Bolt 30-06 that I bought from CDNN for $339 when they first sold them. I put on an old Weaver 6X steel scope that I got from my grandfather. It is now one of my official "car guns". That is one of the long guns that I keep in one of my official LE vehicles. I can count on very near MOA accuracy from a cold bore, so near that it really does not matter. It is also my western states hunting rifle, all I added is a sling. The accuracy from such an inexpensive rifle is incredible. I have it sighted for 200 meters. This means that I can own the real estate for 700 meters around without twisting the knobs-as long as I do my doping properly. I use premium Winchester 168 gr loads.
I use it so my Remington 700sand FNs (in .308 and .223) don't get scratched up(yeah I know, not logical) but the I-Bolt is a really lovable rifle to a rifleman, it's not the best looking but it is comfortable and puts rounds where one wants them, and oh yeah, it is a LOT lighter to pack if you have to leave your vehicle and hike a ways.
