S&W old long guns
I ran into someone yesterday that told me their brother had a S&W rifle that hasn't been shot for 50 years and wants to sell it. Don't care about the has or hasn't been shot part but I was trying to find out about old S&W long guns. I didn't know they made rifles a long time ago. I have a 12 ga pump S&W but I don't think it is super old. Looking for info.

S&W made rifles for a long time importing some from Husqvarna from Sweden in their early models and later switching to Howa made in Japan rifles marked the Model 1500 made in or around the late 80’s. All of these rifles were accurate and well-made and usually excellent shooters. There are some recent write ups in the rifle section of this forum with excellent pictures and very useful information.

Hello Wheeler57
Back in 1967 S&W Offered an Imported Husqvarna rifle. These guns came as Model's A, B, & C. The A-model was their deluxe version that had a Mini Mauser style action that was in House made at Husqvarna and called the Model 1640 action. It was mated to a Sporter Tapered Barrel set down into a French walnut stock hand checked @ 21 Line's per inch, finished in High Gloss urethane finish and it had a deep Gorgeous bluing much like that of a Sako A-5 rifle or early Weatherby rifle. In or around 1970 time span they Imported the second Variation Husqvarna rifle called the Model of 1970 Model 1900 action. Those gun's were a refined Model 1640 action now being made with a smoother bolt throw, Fully adjustable Trigger, and extra Locking lug on their bolt's for a more positive Bolt locking action. I have the earlier edition model 1640 action chambered in 30-06 and it is the A-Deluxe model as shown. I am still Hunting for a Model 1900 action to complete my S&W Husqvarna rifle collection, but the model 1900's are tough to find. Here is my early edition model 1640 Husqvarna rifle that shipped out of S&W in 1967. I have a Period correct Redfield Wide View 3-9 Power scope on it. Regards, Hammerdown

Pretty rifle!
I used to have an old S&W Model 3000 pump shotgun - a Wells Fargo surrender. Great gun but NOTHING to look at. A friend insisted he had to buy it from me so I let him. If it looked like that rifle, that'd never have happened!

Hello James
I have always been partial to the Older Classic American made scope's from the 1960's time span. In my mind they were the best made scope's then or since ! That said, I have an Early Leupold 3-9 scope with the adjustable objective Parked on my H&R Ultra rifle as shown which is chambered in Winchester .308, that say's "Patent applied for !" and I have a classic Weaver K-10 Target scope made in Denver Colorado Parked on my 1967 Remington Model 788 rifle that has a custom Bishop stock on it as shown that is chambered in Winchester .243 Caliber.

Hammerdown, You and I have the same taste in old time rifles and scopes as I love old Redfield and Leupold 3x9x40 scopes.
H&R 300 Ultra rifle in 243 with a 3x9x40mm Leupold scope.
Custom Mauser in 25-06 with a Redfield 3x9x40mm scope on it.
