I have a S&W 7mm Magnum Model 1500 bolt action. It has been shot a fair amount of times. It has a tasco scope on it which is a 3-12x52. The gun is in pretty good shape. Minimal scratches. Im just looking for the value of the gun. I know yall can only give an estimate or ball park without photos but anything would help Thanks

Checked my Bluebook. Believe you must have the Model 1500 Mountaineer Magnum which was made in 7MM and 300 Win Mag. Also made in Deluxe with skip-line checkering no sights. My book is several years old but about $400 would be a fair estimate.

Around here, it would bring no more than a Howa (which is what it is -- and no criticism implied), which for one in pristine condition would be $400 or so max. $0 for the scope, although that would hold true even if it were a Leupold.

I agree with $400 tops and the scope has no value in a package deal - take the scope off and someone will give you $50-$75 bucks for it.

I don't know why the Howa built 1500 rifles don't bring more resale, they are well made rifles and usually very accurate. In addition to the S&W 1500, the Weatherby Vanguard, and Mossberg 1500 are all basically the same rifle as the Howa branded 1500. I would leave the scope on it, if it is dialed in right let the prospective buyer shoot it, that may help sell it.

There is a recall on this and other Howa made bolt action rifles. The recall was issued because if you take the bolt apart and re-assemble it incorrectly the the gun will fire when you close the bolt. In the past you could send the bolt to Howa and they would modify the bolt so that can't happen and ship it back at no charge. I did this on my S&W 1500 about 8 years ago. Nice rifles and accurate as well. If your shopping for a used rifle they are a pretty good buy.
